MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL LAMBERT
Dear Mariano Castro Parents,
The PTA Walkathon is coming up and pledge forms have been sent home. This Walkathon pledge money is a fundraiser to support Castro! It is very easy to get even a small amount of pledges. Your friends, neighbors, and family simply pledge any amount of $ to support your child walking the laps in the Walkathon and these pledge donations are returned by you or your child, with the pledge form, to the school office.
This year's Walkathon is Friday, October 6th at 2:00 p.m. and it is always a terrific community event.

MVWSD is always looking for ways to support students and increase their academic achievement. Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) allows educators to design and deliver lessons that address the academic and linguistic needs of English learners while enhancing the overall learning environment for all students. SIOP-based teaching benefits all students, not just those who are learning English as an additional language. This means your student will get more focus, support and expectations from teachers on how he/she communicates learning using English structures and academic vocabulary.
SIOP Parent Night: Learn more on Thursday, Sept 28 6:30 p.m. at Theuerkauf Elementary MUR. For more info, see https://www.mvwsd.org/academics/supporting_learning/sheltered_instruction_observation_protocol__siop_
Interpreters Needed for Conferences in October
For the past few years, our district has provided interpreter services to improve communication between our teachers and our parents who are learning English. We have been able to provide interpreters for parent-teacher conferences every fall. We need the help of our parents and community members to identify interpreters in Spanish. If you are a fluent speaker of English and Spanish, please help our teachers and families by becoming an interpreter. If you know of someone who is qualified, please pass this information to him/her. The interpreters must be available most weekday afternoons from 12:30-4:00 p.m. between October 2nd and 13th. All interested candidates please apply through Ed-Join @ www.edjoin.org. Interviews and testing to take place ASAP. Successful candidates will be processed in September and are expected to be available for work in October. Interpreters are needed year-round but specifically during conference weeks, possibly for IEP’s and on an as-needed basis. Interpreters receive $20.00 per hour for their service and $25.00 for IEP’s.
