Shoreland Elementary August 2022
A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL DEDO...
Dear Firebird Families,
"Pencils are sharpened in their case.
Bells are ringing, let's make haste.
School's beginning, dreams to chase.
ALL ARE WELCOME HERE!"

JOY. I am so excited for our students and families to see our new home. The first thought that comes my heart and exits my mouth is JOY! This new space will allow students and staff to dream big and learn joyfully.
"In our classroom safe and sound.
Fears are lost and hope is found.
Raise your hand, we'll go around.
ALL ARE WELCOME HERE!"
Excerpt from the book, All Are Welcome, by Alexandra Penfold & Suzanne Kaufman
SAFE. Student and staff safety is our main priority. Our new building is equipped with state-of-the-art safety features. In our upcoming newsletter, Mr. Bott and I will be sharing the building's safety features and building protocols.
"We're part of a community.
Our strength is our diversity.
A shelter from adversity.
ALL ARE WELCOME HERE!"
Excerpt from the book, All Are Welcome, by Alexandra Penfold & Suzanne Kaufman
FAMILY. At Shoreland, we are a family. At some point, all our students will struggle. The struggle may be in an academic subject or a conflict with a friend. Our staff will provide encouragement, support and love to our students. We will help them with all the hard things that come their way. When they are struggling, we will provide support and encouragement. When they are sad, we will help them to find joy again. When they have successes, we will be here to celebrate with them. At Washington Local Schools we are a community, and at Shoreland, we are a family.
"You have a place here.
You have a space here.
YOU ARE WELCOME HERE!"

Welcome to your new home Firebirds. You belong here.
Kimberly A. Dedo, Principal
From Mr. Bott, Associate Principal...
Dear Shoreland Families,
The safety of our students and staff is our main priority. With our new building, we are extremely fortunate to have:
- a large drop-off and pick-up loop for students arriving by car.
- the bus loop will be in the front of the building. In order to accommodate our busses, the point at which East Harbor begins as a one-way street has changed.
- walking paths behind the school for students going towards Ketukkee Trail and Foch Avenue.
With our 640 students, it is paramount that we have students' dismissal plans in place by 3:00 p.m. Therefore, changes in how students will be going home cannot take place after 3:00 p.m. In addition, after 3:00 p.m. family members cannot come to the office to pick-up their students for an early release. Please keep in mind, late arrivals and early dismissals count against students' attendance records.
In order to ensure the safety of our students, we need the support of our families. On Monday, I will be sharing a more detailed plan for morning arrival and afternoon dismissal in a transportation newsletter.
