Weekly Message
Dear Raleigh Hills Staff,
Thank you so much for your engagement on Tuesday. Those who were at Cooper Mountain worked so well to share ideas with the teachers from their school. I took away some powerful learning from the math portion about supporting language learners. I am going to offer an optional PD/Work Session on Monday after school for teachers to dive into work with Notability that was demoed. I know MS Humanities teachers want to work on this for their goal as well. All are welcome. I want to be sure that if that PD spoke to you, you have the skills to get started right away. Bring your teacher iPad and a class list and meet me in the library at 3:15.
Thank you to the teachers who did not attend Cooper Mountain but engaged in meaningful collaboration at RH. The SEL team previewed a documentary called The Kids We Lose which is a film about the human side of being a child or student with behavioral challenges, and the struggles faced by parents, educators, staff in facilities, mental health clinicians, and judicial and law enforcement professionals in trying to ensure that these kids receive the help they need. Middle school teachers made a great plan to support Erin's Law when those intense lessons begin.
I am almost finished with mid-year meetings and I can't wait to get back into classrooms to help you with the goals you have set for the rest of the year. I use the master schedule to plan when I will be visiting classrooms. Please take a look and let me know of any changes your grade level has made to your schedule so that I will show up at the right time. Have one member of your team email me by Tuesday.
Warm regards,
Jennifer

Safety Scoop
- Remember to shut your doors during fire drills. You may assign this as a student job.
- Doors are to remain locked when you are out of the classroom (e.g. lunch and plan). Please leave them unlocked while teaching. Now that doors lock from the inside, there is no need to keep them locked at all times.
Movement Minutes Data Collection Is THIS WEEK!
REMINDER: PE and Classroom Movement

Have students practice using academic language using SWIRL:
S - speaking during class meeting, discussion, individual conferences and partnerships
W - writing in a journal or responding to a picture of the day
I - interacting with a partner with assigned roles and sentence frames
R - reading with partners during using some of the UOS partnership frameworks

Assume Positive Intent
When we feel attacked, a part of our brain called the amygdala floods our body with chemicals that prepare us for a fight. As a teacher, I experience a wide range of emotions each day: anger, frustration, and stress. For our wellbeing, it's it truly important to pause and say to ourselves, "Assume Positive Intent." When things can go sideways and we feel reactive and start to place blame, we can ask ourselves:
- Is it true? (Yes/No. If no, move to 3).
- Can you absolutely know that it's true? (Yes/No)
- How do you react or what happens when you believe that thought?
- Who would you be without this thought?
