It's hard to believe that we are about to enter into the Winter Holiday Break!
We will have our Middle & High School Talent Show on Thursday, December 19th! Audition videos were due by midnight last night. We look forward to seeing all of these impressive talents.

Students needing the DDS Certificate of Enrollment for your driving test need to complete those forms BEFORE Friday. Otherwise you will not be able to complete the form until the beginning of the 2nd semester.

We had a wonderful start to our annual fundraising campaign and we have already raised a total of $110,021 so far this year.
Our goal is to have 100% participation from our families to reach this year's annual fundraising goal of $250,000.
If 100% of our families make a gift (regardless of size), Principal Sener agreed to be slimed! :)
The money raised from this campaign will be used for the third phase of our campus expansion including an athletic field and auditorium among other improvements.
Any person donating $1,000 or more will earn a brick that will be placed at the entrance of our school.

What is the Annual Fund?
The FSA Annual Fund is the cornerstone of Fulton Science Academy’s fundraising efforts. This crucial fund is an important part of our school’s journey. Gifts enable us to invest in important resources for the children that are not covered by tuition alone. Your gift shows confidence in our school’s mission to inspire confident, compassionate students and build leaders who demonstrate exceptional character.

We teach our students about the impact one person can make in life. One unique question posed during a class can spark lively debate. One smile can turn someone’s frown upside down. One teacher can make a life-long impact on your son or daughter. The actions of one can positively impact so many others! Giving is a wonderful and contagious experience. A gift to the FSA Annual Fund benefits the entire FSA school.
Why Should I Give?
We hope you would donate the FSA Annual Fund because you believe in the work of our school, you support the passion and dedication of our faculty, and you can see the positive impact an FSA education is having on your child. Contributions to the Annual Fund will be put to use right away and will help pay for expenses that are not covered by tuition alone such as extracurricular activities and building expansion.
How Much Should I Give?
Please consider giving as much as you can! The gift of education is a gift that keeps on giving. To help us reach our goal, a donation of $300 per student is suggested, but every gift helps! Whether your contribution is $10, or $10,000, giving offers a positive statement of your belief in FSA and pride in your family’s FSA experience. This year, our gifts have ranged from $10 to $25,000 each.
When Should I Donate?
The earlier we receive your donation, the sooner we can put it to use to benefit our students. While we encourage all families to make their pledges by December 31, Annual Fund payments are accepted until June 30. For maximum year-end tax benefits, we suggest a donation before 12/31/19.

I Already Pay Tuition. Why Am I Being Asked to Pay More to the School?
Put quite simply, given our competitive rates, if we relied on tuition alone to fund the many wonderful attributes that make FSA so special, our tuition costs would skyrocket. Most prestigious private schools like ours rely upon robust Annual Funds with contributions from families that directly support every aspect of school life.
Your gift(s) to the FSA Annual Fund supports the people and programs that make us an award-winning private school. Through these tax-deductible gifts, we are able to recruit and retain talented teachers, offer small class sizes, provide cutting-edge technology, enjoy award-winning extracurricular teams, and fill our beautiful new campus with laughter, learning, and life-long friendships that form while studying here.
Is FSA Able to Receive Matching Gifts from My Company?
Absolutely! FSA welcomes corporate support through sponsorships and generous matching gift programs. Please ask your employer about Matching Gift Programs that support K–12 schools. This is a great way to double and sometimes triple your gift to FSA. Please check with your employer.
Are Donations Tax Deductible?
Yes. As a registered nonprofit, all gifts are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. If you make a gift online, you will receive a customized thank you email that can also serve as a receipt for your donation.
Are There Incentives to Donate?
Although we would hope your primary purpose for donating is to support the campaign and show your long-term investment in our school and the education we are so honored to provide to your child(ren), we also recognize the value and value of celebrating when milestones are reached. As such, we have established rewards ranging from dress down days to catered lunches to ice cream socials, depending upon the percent of parent participants. Best of all, if 100% of our families make a gift (regardless of size), Principal Sener has agreed to be slimed! :)

- High School students will be allowed to leave for the day once they have completed all of their finals for that particular day. If a high school students needs or wants to stay after they complete their final, they will have a designated area to report to where they can either study for another final or work on other school related assignments

FINAL EXAMS EXEMTION POLICY
Students taking a high school course are able to exempt up to two final exams per semester when they meet the below requirement:
No more than 3 absences in the class that they wish to be exempted
School approved absences will not be counted against the student, such as
-Academic & athletic competitions
-Death/loss - up to 3 days requirements:
-Religious holidays
Being sick will not count as a school approved absence excuse towards final exam exemption
Must have a 95% or more in the class for which student is trying to exempt exam
Grade will be assessed as unweighted; weighted points for Honors and AP will not count towards final exam exemption
Must have no ISS, no OSS, and not more than two lunch detentions.
Student must have parent sign final exam exemption form and return that to their teacher as verification of exemption before finals week.

FSA High School Breakfast of Champions Fundraiser | We need your support!
Hello FSA High School Parents!
We are very excited to let you know that we are planning to host the “Breakfast of Champions” Family Event and Fundraiser! BUT, WE NEED YOUR HELP TO MAKE IT A HUGE SUCCESS!
This event will be a family-friendly waffle breakfast with a basket raffle to raise funds for our much-needed athletic field. We are still a young school and our athletic program is just getting off the ground and we need an athletic field, weight room, etc.
HOW ARE WE GOING TO HELP? Each grade will put together a fabulous “Basket” of goodies/services to raffle off at the Breakfast of Champions.
Our theme will be based around the High Schoolers from the “Gen-Z” era.
In our basket, we would like to have all the things every teenager will enjoy! Think donations gifts like books, tech stuff, gift cards for favorite restaurants, movie tickets, and fun places to hangout, like Dave and Busters, Main Event, The Cooler, or Bowling. Tech products such as noise-cancelling headphones, I-pads, video games and snacks etc to set the mood.
To make it easy on everyone we have created four ways for you to donate.
1) Bring items (or monetary gifts) to the front desk at FSA. Be sure to label with your name, child's name and grade, and email address so it makes it to us.

Poetry Out Loud 2020
29 January 2020 / 6:00 PM / FSA Cafeteria
What is it?
Sponsored by the Poetry Foundation and the National Foundation for the Arts, Poetry Out Loud is a national poetry recitation competition. Students select two poems from the Poetry Out Loud anthology to memorize and recite on the day of the competition. A panel of three to five judges will score each student and determine a winner at the end of the competition.
How will I be judged?

● Evidence of Understanding
● Overall Performance
How do I sign-up?
First, check out the website to view the anthology of over 1,100 poems, watch student performances, and learn more about the judging procedures. Then, select two poems to memorize and recite. Inform Ms. Outler of your intent to participate and your poem selections by Monday, January 20th.

Why should I consider competing?
This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life. Especially if you’re lacking in the Arts department, you can include this competition on your résuméor on college applications. In total, Poetry Out Loud will award more than $100,000 to state- and national-level winners and their schools. Also, it’s just a lot of fun.
When will it be held?
Our 2nd Annual competition will be held in the school cafeteria on Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at 6 PM.
Spring Formal is Coming! SAVE THE DATE
St. Jude Leadership Society
The admittance process includes an online application and a phone interview, from which we will select a limited number of students to participate in the 2020 St. Jude Leadership Society. Students will distinguish themselves for college applications by developing soft skills including: strategic leadership development, effective communication and exposure to career possibilities through the Executive Speaker program. Students will also get the opportunity to network with fellow members and embrace the culture pillars of good citizenship, meaningful engagement and teambuilding. The St. Jude Leadership Society is a leadership experience that consists of four in person sessions here in Atlanta and culminates in Memphis in July, where SJLS members from all over the country will gather together to be recognized for their achievements and see the lifesaving work being done at St. Jude up close.
This is a great opportunity to be a part of the inaugural class to help St. Jude fight childhood cancer. The program kicks off in February 2020. The session dates follow:
- Kick-off and Orientation – Sunday, February 9
- Second Session – Sunday, March 1
- Third Session – Sunday, April 19
- Final Session and Celebration – Sunday, May 24
- Memphis Trip – July TBD

Summer STEM Program | San Francisco
Attending the college prep Summer STEM Program is a critical entry point for students seeking admission to elite American colleges and universities STEM related majors. The goal of the college prep Summer STEM Program is to enhance students skill sets through classroom based instruction and a professionally guided internship experience. The college prep Summer STEM Program encompasses volunteer experiences, resume writing, SAT preparation and specific knowledge skills courses.
Additionally, students will have an opportunity for a guided internship in a fortune
1,000 corporation, a Technology venture capital firm or a funded tech business.
By joining the college prep Summer STEM Program, students have an opportunity to gain in-depth resources and networking experiences in Silicon Valley. Courses are taught by experienced professionals and distinguished educators with a
proven track record.

What's Included?
Internship Experience
- Students will have real world work experience in a fortune 1000 tech corporations, Venture Capitalist Firms or funded startup companies. Students attending the program will receive a recommendation letter from a senior staff leader after completing their internship experience.
Volunteer Experience
- Students will work on a social volunteer project with a local non profits organizations that helps solve a problem or issue utilizing technology. Students will present their project to a panel of judges to gauge the effectiveness of their project. Students groups will receive a documented recommendation letter after completing their volunteer experience.
Key Highlights
- Opportunity for students to intern in a fortune 1000 corporation, start up company or a venture capital internship. Opportunities for students to meet and network with executives, investors professors and leaders throughout the Bay area during program.
Students build critical resume writing skills, internship experience and SAT exam preparation skills.

Rosetta Institute Molecular Medicine Summer Camps
Hello Parents and Prospective Students,
We hope your semester is moving along nicely and that you are beginning to think about your plans during school breaks. We wanted to let you know about our upcoming molecular medicine workshops and let you know that applications are now being accepted!
- Our summer workshops during June and July of 2020 are held at UC Berkeley and UC San Diego (residential and commuter options are available). These include workshops on Molecular Biology of Cancer, Molecular Neuroscience, Molecular Immunology, Molecular Biology of Aging and Bioinformatics of Cancer. The workshops are taught by PhD-level scientists who are actively engaged in the field of medical research, and they expose students to cutting-edge molecular biology through engaging lectures and real-world molecular biology lab exercises. Workshop participants experience college life in a safe environment by living in the undergraduate dorms and eating in undergraduate dining facilities, and they make friends with fellow students from around the nation and around the world.
- Other workshops: Our Medical and Translational Bioinformatics workshop is held during winter break from 12/26-12/30. This is a great workshop for students who want to do research from home or work on a science project. We also have a lab-intensive workshop on Biomedical Research at our lab in Alameda, CA during late July-early August.

Oxbridge Academic Programs
Oxbridge has been offering academic summer programs to adventurous students in grades 7-12 for 35 years. We are based in some of the world's best universities, and in historically and culturally significant cities across England, France, Spain, and the United States. You can choose two subjects - a major and a minor - from a range of more than 200 subjects. Outside of class, there are a huge number of elective extra-curricular activities on every program, as well as guest speakers, workshops, and field-trips.

Smart Tuition is the tuition management system used by FSA. In addition to tuition, all incidental billing such as aftercare fees, sports and academic team fees, trips, etc., is also done through Smart Tuition. There is a $50 yearly fee for Smart Tuition.

How can I schedule a home visit?
Very simple.
To schedule a middle or high school school home visit: Simply email sduman@fultonscienceacademy.org with some suggested dates/times, as well as your students' name(s) and homeroom assignments. Mr. Duman will be in touch to confirm final details.
Depending on our teacher’s availability, at least two teachers will be together to visit our students and parents at their homes. The best times to schedule a home visit are weekdays after 5:00 pm, and anytime during the weekends, except Sunday mornings.
