SGE Spotlight - Media Center
The Media Center has successfully completed Digital Citizenship classes for all grade levels, which means seeds planted for smarter decisions and choices in the digital world, but also frees more time for fun!
In grades K-2, book choices for the reading sessions over the past month have been books that tie-in to our SIEW (Strong In Every Way) campaign, most recently focusing on compassion and empathy. I’ve also tried some new projects that allow one student to write a book, and another to illustrate later. This has proven to be something students enjoy as well. This collaborative project was inspired by the second in a series of four Library Mouse books we read.
Grade 4 is in the midst of completing the book Rascal, an old classic based in World War I America. The 3rd grade students are finishing Gulliver’s Travels. Each grade is able to enjoy the corresponding movie of each book, followed by discussion of differences between the book and cinema product.
The Makerspace continues to be favorite offering for nearly everyone. Students who will have an upcoming turn are regularly encouraged to have a concept or activity in mind for their visit to be sure their time is used to the full potential. The Media Center has several books to help students brainstorm.
This past week, stop motion filming was a top choice and two students also chose to make speakers for their media playing devices. I welcome more hands-on-deck in the Media Center to make all of our options available to more children each visit, so please consider volunteering sometime!
Kindergarten Registration 2018
It is almost time to welcome our newest class to SGE, the class of 2031!
Registration for Kindergarten Round-Up is officially open. Kindergarten Round-Up at SGE will take place on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 from 8:30 AM-4:45 PM.
If you have not pre-registered or signed up for a round-up time, and your child will be going to Kindergarten at SGE in the fall please click here.
If your child is enrolled in ZCS Universal Preschool at the school they will attend Kindergarten, you can expect Round-Up information from your Preschool lead. You do NOT need to sign up for one of the above dates. If your child attends Preschool at Zionsville West Middle School, or a Preschool at a different Zionsville school than their boundary school, you will need to register and sign up for a Round-Up time.
Textbook Fees Reminder
As the school year comes to an end, please make sure that your textbook rental fees are paid. Textbook rental fees that are not paid in full by the end of the school year will be sent to a licensed collection agency. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
Stonegate Spiritwear
Our Stonegate Spiritwear store is now open. It will close on April 13th, so shop online at:
http://stonegate.185promostore.com/
We have to meet a minimum of 24 on the stadium chair and 36 for the towels so spread the word. If you have friends outside of Stonegate Elementary, they can order and pay online. When the online form asks for a “teacher name”, tell your friends to enter your last name. This will make it easier when everything gets delivered to school.
Check those Coca-Cola Codes
Dear Parents,
We’re excited to share that our school is part of the Coca-Cola Give program. This opens up Stonegate Elementary to new funding opportunities to help improve learning environments for students. The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket.
When you make Coca-Cola purchases, you simply enter the product codes (found on bottle caps or paper packaging) here: https://us.coca-cola.com/give/schools/ and our school receives a donation.Enter the code yourself or drop off your product codes at the front office and we will enter for you. Codes are found on all Coke products which includes Dasani bottled water. Find the codes on the case packaging or bottle caps.
Sincerely, Stonegate PTO

Parenting in the Digital Age
Parenting is never easy. But today's parents have to grapple with a wired world in a way that no other generation has ever had to before. This ever-evolving digital landscape can be daunting to navigate. Join ZCS in a 5-part series on Parenting in the Digital Age. This series will take place over the winter months and focus on keeping our students safe and healthy in the digital world while weighing the potential benefits and possible negative effects of social media. All presentations will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Board Room at the Educational Service Center.
ZCS Openings
ZCS Food Service positions now available at several of the ZCS cafeterias. Click here to apply directly and call 317-733-4804 with any questions!

Did You Know?
ZCS, like other public schools, has a no-idling policy for vehicles on campus. The purpose of the policy is to limit vehicle emissions that might be brought into the schools and adversely impact the health of our students and staff. If you are stopped on campus for more than 5 minutes, please remember to turn off your engine. We thank you for abiding by this policy to help reduce the exposure to these emissions.
