My Dream
Shelby Smith
Teaching
When I grow up, I want to be a teacher. I can't decide between 2nd grade or 7th grade. If I pick 7th grade, I will teach Multimedia or some kind of computer class. I love being around children, so I think that being a teacher is the perfect job.
2nd Grade
This summer, our church hosted an event called VBS (Vacation Bible School). It goes on every night for a week for Kindergarten-6th graders. There's always a theme and lots of crafts, games, story lessons, and worship. Since I'm too old to attend, I decided to be a leader/helper for the 2nd-3rd grade group. I had a blast playing, teaching, and worshiping with the kiddos. I loved it and it made me want to be around kids this age all of the time, so that's what influenced my decision to want to be a 2nd grade teacher.
7th Grade
When I was in 7th and 8th grade, it wasn't very fun. I kind of felt like I was left out a lot, I lost friends, and my grandpa died. I had a teacher that really helped me out. Everyday, a few of us students ate lunch with him in his room. He was a really Christian guy and was always positive. He made everything a little bit better. Since I went through that, knowing that time of someone's life is difficult, I want to be that person for kids that need someone. I want to be there for kids and help them, because I know how it feels and what an impact one person can make on someone's life.
How I'm getting there...
To start with, I've joined FEA. Also, when I can, I'm going to be Cadet Teaching to help prepare me. I can get experience with kids, learn from other teachers, and be able to see teachers techniques and how they teach the kids. Also, I will be able to learn appropriate discipline and conversation.
Teaching
I really love kids and being around them. One of my strengths is helping people. Becoming a teacher would be the perfect job for me, considering those things.
