Maverick Express february 2018
MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL TODD CORSETTI
It's hard to believe that February is quickly upon us! February kicks off a frenzy of activity at the high school as we prepare to forecast students for their classes next year. As a parent, it is extremely important to stay current with your student's forecasting information so that you can help him/her make the most informed decisions about his/her classes for next year. There is more detailed information later in The Express outlining the forecasting activities.
Important dates for you and your student to consider this month are:
- February 16th: Forecast materials, including the Curriculum Guide and forecasting forms, given to students in their grade-level Advisory
-
February 21st: Curriculum Fair at 6:30 pm to help answer general questions regarding classes and the forecasting process
- February 16th - 22nd: Students work with their teachers to obtain signatures and recommendations for next year's courses
- February 22nd – March 2nd: Students will enter their forecast information online in their science classes.
It is wise for you and your son/daughter to research fully the courses they are signing up for next year. With continued budget concerns and rising class sizes, having an accurate forecasting sheet is imperative to the staffing of classes next year and helps to ensure that your son/daughter is able to receive the schedule he/she wants. Let the counseling department know if you have any questions regarding the forecasting process.
Mountainside will host Summer School this upcoming summer. Summer School will include credit recovery options, an 8.5 section for incoming 9th graders, and accelerated and enrichment opportunities. More information will be presented in the months to come. If you have questions, you can email our Summer School Coordinator, Counselor Jacy Jukkala at jacy_jukkala@beaverton.k12.or.us
As always, I'm proud of our student body and all that they represent. Make sure to come out and support our upcoming basketball games, wrestling matches, swim meets, band and choir performances, and our first-ever spring musical, "Little Shop of Horrors!"
The Principal’s Coffee occurs the third Friday of each month at 9:00AM in the community room. This is an informal opportunity to find out what’s new at Mountainside and/or to ask general questions. Our next Principal’s Coffee is Friday, February 16th.
If you have questions, you can reach me via email at: todd_corsetti@beaverton.k12.or.us
Sue Neeway is my amazing principal’s secretary, and she can be reached through the Mountainside Main Line at 503-356-3500 or by email at sue_neeway@beaverton.k12.or.us

TARDIES IN THE MORNING
We need your help. We are seeing an increase of students late to the first period of the day. We realize that traffic in the morning can be difficult. We also know our traffic will worsen as we have more and more student drivers and as the neighorhoods around us are completed. Please adjust your drop off times accordingly so that your student can get to class on time. Starting on Monday, February 5th and all next week, students who are late will receive a warning slip upon entering the building. We are giving them a week of warnings to adjust their arrival time. However, starting the following Monday, February 12th, if a student is late he/she will receive a lunch or after school detention. It is not an excused tardy for traffic to be the cause of a student's tardiness. Students late to class is a disruption to teachers and impacts instructional time. Thank you for your attention to this.
scheduling
curriculum night - Wed., February 21
Please join us at 6:30PM as Principal Todd Corsetti welcomes everyone to an evening filled with opportunities to meet teachers, counselors and coaches. There will be group sessions on curriculum forecasting by grade level, IB grades 9-11, and athletics. In addition, our Commons will be filled with tables featuring our core curriculum teachers, Career Pathway programs, our athletic coaches and after school clubs. This might be an opportunity to see what is offered at Mountainside and to have chance to ask questions about our programs. Individual counselor questions will be addressed in the Commons during the last session. Finally, we will also offer student-led tours of our wonderful facilities. Plan on spending the evening learning about what is ahead for your student here at Mountainside during the 2018-19 school year.

Love Abounds
Our AWESOME local Dutch Bros has chosen MPACT and Mountainside High School food pantry for:
Dutch Luv Day!
Every Year, on Valentine's Day, Dutch Bros gives back. All locations donate $1 from every drink sold to a local food organization. One dollar, on average, allows organizations to purchase seven pounds of healthy and nutritious food for community members in need.
We are so lucky to have Dutch in our corner! Please come out and support this day of love for neighbors. Even if you don't drink coffee, Dutch has many tasty non-coffee drinks. MAVuP and show the LOVE!!!
leadership
Thanks to all those who attended our Winter Wishes Semi-Formal Dance! We had amazing parent help, staff chaperones, and 677 students dancing the night away. We were able to raise enough money at the dance to reach our school goal of $5000 to grant a child's wish through Make-A-Wish this school year!
