Roman Social classes
There are four social classes that make up Rome, Patricians, Plebians, Freedmen, and Slaves. Which one would you fit into?
Patricians
The highest class consisted of; wealthy landowners, counsels, senators, praetors (judges) and descendants of founding fathers.
Plebians
The lower class/ordinary citizens was mostly shop owners.
They can't lead in government and have to pay taxes.
Freedmen
The freedmen were mostly craftsmen and traders, however they could also own small shops and farms. They where free from slavery but had little rights.
Slaves
They had no rights, but they had many jobs: mining, farming, and building roads. They could pay to get out of slavery but it took many years to save up enough money.
Conclusion
Rome was one of the worlds finest empires, but would you want to live there if you where a slave or a freedman? No probably not, you would be treated like dirt. However if you where a patrician would you want to stay and be the boss? Social classes had a big effect on people in rome, and they still do today.
