Running and Winning Workshop at DHS

Civic Engagement and Leadership for Female Students

April 27, 2018

Fifty-four Delran High School female students volunteered to participate in a day long workshop on April 27, 2018 to learn about the process of running and winning elected offices. This workshop was sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Burlington County, the American Association of University Women, the Alice Paul Institute, The Links, and The Judith Glick Buckman Fund for the Future. Sixteen local politicians and twenty-five volunteers supported students in question and answer sessions as well as creating their own political campaigns. Students then had the opportunity to present their campaigns to their peers.

The day began with keynote speaker Debbie Walsh. Ms. Walsh is the director of the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University. Her inspiring keynote focused on the importance of getting involved and the power of female voices in politics since less than twenty percent of the current Congress is female.

Delran High School would like to thank all of the sponsors for making this opportunity possible for our students. Please read the Burlington County Times article below for more information about this wonderful event.
