Letter from Mrs. Engstrom

Dear Kasuun Families,

I hope your family enjoyed some time together over the Thanksgiving holiday. I traveled back to Minnesota to spend time with my mom and other family members. It was wonderful to connect with family and reflect on all of life's blessings.

The Kasuun PTA hosted Turkey BINGO last month and it was great to see so many families participating in person and via Zoom. The PTA distributed many prizes and two turkey dinners! I am looking forward to more opportunities to interact with our Kasuun families.

It's hard to believe that we are just two weeks away from Winter Break. Kasuun PTA is sponsoring a Food Drive to help our community. Classrooms are competing with each other to see who will bring in the most donations. The winning classroom will receive a reward and a chance to pie BOTH of their principals in the face! If your family needs support over the break, please fill out the Family Needs Survey below. Our community is very generous and ready to assist.

Family Assistance: Please complete this family needs survey so we can help support families with any needs for the winter holidays and winter break.

Arrival and Dismissal: With the substantial snowfall, please help us keep students safe by driving slowly and following all staff guidance at arrival and dismissal. When you drop off your students, please encourage them to walk around the building on the right side by the bus loop as it has better lighting and we prioritize plowing that route. Please remind your students to walk outside.

Food Drive: Please see the flyer below for more information about the food drive. Donations are being accepted until Dec 6.

Band Concert: December 14th from 2:45 pm - 3:15 pm

6th grade families are welcome to attend this in-person concert. Please arrive at 2:35 pm. Masks are required indoors.

No School:

12/17 - State released grade reporting day

12/20 - 1/2 - Winter Break

Absences: To report your child's absence, call the Attendance Line before 9:30 am and leave a message. The number is: 349-9444 (press 1).

Attendance: Parents, I really appreciate you making the extra effort to ensure your child is on time to school (between 8:50 am - 9:00 am). In addition, scheduling appointments outside of your child's school day, provides them with the best opportunity to succeed socially, emotionally, and academically.

Battle of the Books: If your child is currently signed up for Battle of the Books, the team will continue meeting every Monday and Tuesday.

COVID Information: Scroll down to Nurse Linda's section to learn about new COVID testing sites and Vaccination registration. For more information about district COVID-19 planning and support click on the active link.

Winter Gear: Students wait outdoors each day until 8:50 a.m. and go outside for recess if the temperature is above -10 degrees. Please send your child to school with weather appropriate clothing (jackets, hats, gloves, and boots) to ensure their safety.

I wish you and your family a wonderful winter break that is filled with laughter, fun, and many great memories. Best wishes for a Happy New Year!

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to call or email me. My email address is: engstrom_korinne@asdk12.org and my phone number is: (907) 349-9444.

Kind regards,

Kori Engstrom, Principal

Health Screening for students in grades K, 1, 2, 3, and 5.

Vision, hearing and growth screenings have started, and will continue October-December.

Grades K, 1, 2 - December 3rd

Photoscreening for Grades K, 1, 2 will begin at 9:30 am on December 3rd and may continue into the early afternoon. Please consider adjusting appointments so students can complete this important screening opportunity.

A photoscreener is a device that gives an estimate of your child's refractive error (glasses problem), eye alignment, and pupil size.

Volunteers from the Lions Club will join us to complete this important check of our youngest students' eye health. Referrals for a visit with your eye care provider will be sent to parents of students that do not pass photoscreening.

Any student may receive vision, hearing, and growth screening at parent/guardian request. Please contact Nurse Linda if you have any questions or would like to schedule additional screening.

Parents will be notified if students do not pass screenings.
