NOVEMBER 2022 HIGHLIGHTS

LYCOCTC ROTARY STUDENT OF THE MONTH

The Lycoming Career and Technology Center is pleased to announce Caleb Herman as

Rotary/LycoCTC Student of the Month for November, 2022. Caleb, son of Abbie Herman and

Matthew Herman of Muncy , PA, has received this honor based upon outstanding work ethic,

attendance, behavior, community service, and the recommendation of his LycoCTC Automotive

Technology Instructor.


A Warrior Run High School senior, Caleb is active in the youth group at Crossroads Nazarene

Church in Montandon, PA, where he has worked in the Penn State concession stand. He also

works after school at Spencer’s Equestrian.

Following graduation in June, 2023, Caleb hopes to join the Marine Corps as an aviation/heavy

equipment mechanic.

COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS

The LycoCTC Student Advisory group has recently organized a number of ways for our students to get involved with helping support and raise awareness in the community.

* Diabetes Awareness - Students and staff wore blue to support diabetes awareness

* Thanksgiving Food Drive - A competition was held to see which class could bring in the most food to donate! LycoCTC donated 203 food items to the Central PA Food Bank!

* Dwell Orphan Care - Donations of gift cards, forever stamps, and money are being accepted to help with foster families and children.

AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY

The Automotive class had a special guest. Dakota graduated 5 years ago from our Auto class. He now owns his own heavy equipment repair company. He did a presentation on rebuilding a hydraulic cylinder for the students.

COMPUTER SYSTEMS TECHNOLOGY

Students learned to configure a RAID array (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) to combine the storage space of multiple hard drives.

CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY

Students from our flex class recently re-built a park bench that sits outside of Automotive. The students disassembled the bench, prepped and painted the metal sides, cut new wood, sanded and finished all the new wood, then re-assembled the unit. CRIMINAL JUSTICE

Students are practicing their defense tactics in the Criminal Justice class. They learn defensive counter-strikes, pressure point control tactics, balance displacement and takedowns.

CULINARY ARTS

The Culinary students had a fun contest to see who could carve the best pumpkin. This gave them a chance to practice their knife skills. After the winner was chosen they took all the pumpkins and made pumpkin pies. Just in time for Thanksgiving!

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

The student teachers continue to work with the preschool students every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the LycoTykes Preschool! Everyone had a wonderful time preparing for the Thanksgiving holiday with fun filled activities.

HEALTH CAREERS LEVEL 1

Students in the Health Careers class have been practicing patient communication and documenting in the medical records. They also practice measuring and recording patient's height and weight and bed making.

HEALTH CAREERS LEVEL 2 & 3

Level 2 & 3 students in Health Careers are practicing many different skills. They ambulate patients using a gait belt and cane, transfers patients from the bed to a wheelchair, administers oxygen via nasal cannula and peforms an electrocardiogram (ECG).

STAFF SPOTLIGHT

KELLI FINCK- ATTENDANCE SECRETARY

Kelli has been working at LycoCTC for 5 years. She started as a paraprofessional and after a few months she became the Attendance Secretary. Kelli also maintains the LycoCTC Facebook Page and assists in the monthly newsletter publication.

Her favorite part about LycoCTC is seeing all the smiling faces that come through the door everyday! In her spare time, Kelli loves being with her 2 boys. They are both in sports year round so they definitely keep her busy!

ODESSA CARICHNER- DEPUTY SHERIFF

Odessa graduated from East Lycoming in 2011. She attended LycoCTC and was in the Criminal Justice program. After graduation she joined the Air Force. She is now a Deputy with Lycoming County Sheriff's Office. Odessa had this to say about Lyco, " LycoCTC was a great stepping stone to lead me to where I am today! I was able to take what I learned from the Criminal Justice program and apply that knowledge to my job in the military and now as a Deputy Sheriff."
