Knightly Update September 17, 2023
ACP High School - Edition Vol 3 Issue 11
________________________________________
I am extremely excited to announce that we have 23 members of our senior class that are National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists! This is the largest number of semifinalists we have had from one class in our school's history and with 7% of the senior class being named semifinalists, it is the highest percentage across the district. Congratulations to all of this year's National Merit Semifinalists. Absolutely amazing! You can learn more about the National Merit Scholarship and see the full list of this year's semifinalists in our Knights in the Spotlight section of today's update. Congratulations to you all!
As everyone is most likely aware, we have just ten school days remaining until fall intersession. The first quarter is the longest quarter of the year being almost 11 weeks. While everyone is excited and ready for the break (and for the summer heat to end), please remind your child(ren) to finish the quarter strong and disciplined. Students need to keep up on their work and monitor their behavior. We don't want a lack of work ethic or mistakes to impact what has been a very successful and exciting quarter these final two weeks. Keep working hard, Knights. Your break will be here before you know it! You got this!!
I hope you have a very nice week. If you have any questions, or need assistance, please contact me. I hope to see you at many of this week's extracurricular activities. Have a great week. Go, KNIGHTS!
Rob Bickes
Principal

Knights in the Spotlight
National Merit® Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) has announced its 2024 National Merit® Semifinalists. The 69th annual NMSC program named 16,000 Semifinalists. 7,250 National Merit® Scholarships valued at $28 million total will be awarded next spring. 95% of Semifinalists become Finalists and approximately 50% of them win scholarships and are named Merit Scholars®.
To be considered, students must take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) in their junior year. The highest-scoring students in each state are named semifinalists, and the number from each state is proportional to the state’s percentage of all graduating students nationwide
Semifinalists are comprised of less than one percent of high school seniors nationwide and we are extremely pleased to share that ACP High School's Class of 2024 has 23 National Merit Semifinalists. Absolutely amazing. As a school, ACP has a higher percentage (7%) of National Merit Semifinalists than any other CUSD school. Congratulations to this year's National Merit Semifinalists!!

The ACP Mountain Bike team was wildly successful at their first race of the season in Flagstaff last weekend. Dmitri Kineyko won first place in the JV2 Boys category and will race in the next race wearing the Leader's jersey! Sean McClung was close behind him with a 3rd place finish! In the JV2 Girls race, Sydelia Orr placed 3rd in her first mountain bike race ever!
After all the racing was over, ACP had nine top 20 finishes over all categories in both high school and middle school, and most of the Knights improved their times on this Flagstaff course! Really impressive showing for ACP MTB! Here are some more notable finishes:
Matthew Nakai, 11th place JV1 Boys
Gavin Pirretti, 7th place JV2 Boys
Ky Catch, 11th place JV2 Boys
Henry Bridwell, 13th place JV2 Boys
Connor Fitzharris, 16th place JV2 Boys

Biman gave an influential speech to 2,000 people about his story combating the Nepali government’s attempt to shut down the extra postal service, thus resulting in 11,000 workers being unemployed. He was also able to vote as a delegate on serious issues regarding equal pay, the effect of big corporations on employees, and the AI crisis. Biman is strongly passionate about defending the rights of disadvantaged workers in Nepal and you can read more about Biman's work by reading Maria Tapia's (class of '27) article in our latest edition of the Knight Times (student news site).
Great work, Biman!

The PREP PTO is the official parent/teacher organization of ACP High. Our role is to help support the staff, students, and faculty of ACP. School funds only go so far. We work closely with the administration to help determine the needs and then fund those needs. We support back-to-school events, teacher requests, general requests from the administration, graduation, and so much more. We support the entire school!
We do minimal fundraising throughout the year, so to assist us with our events and school support, we ask families to consider making a Booster donation.
Our suggested Booster Donation is:
$60 per student
$90 per family (2 or more students attending ACPHS)
Donations over $150 will receive an ACP Spirit T-shirt by the end of August.
Any donations to The Prep PTO are greatly appreciated but are not required.
The PrepPTO is a member of the Chandler School Boosters 501c3 non-profit organization. Your donation may be tax-deductible. Please consult your tax professional for information/clarification.
Thank you for your support.

Please Make a Tax Credit Donation
If you are able to make your tax contributions early in the year, your donation would be greatly appreciated and give us a jump start on some of our essential extracurricular activities. We have set a goal to collect approximately $50.00 per family for a total of $57,500.00 and hope that you will be willing to help us meet our goal. Thank you for supporting your child and our school!
Tax Credit Basics…
A tax credit donation is a full refund, not a deduction. Contributions eligible for a tax credit are donated directly to schools, not to the state or school district. To participate or learn more, follow the link listed below to donate online or you can complete the enclosed form and submit your contribution at your convenience.
http://www.cusd80.com/taxcredit
Arizona Law ARS 43-1089.01 enables taxpayers a tax credit contribution of up to $400.00 per year if filing status is “Married, filing Joint Return;” $200.00 per calendar year if filing status is “Single of Head of Household;” and $200 per calendar year if filing status is “Married filing separate returns.” These contributions fund extracurricular activities in public schools and greatly impact our school community and our students.
