Mental Floss History
The person that created this art was Constantin Brancusi. It is actually the endless column that holds up the sky. Endless Columns was commissioned by the Women's League of Gorj to honor the soldiers who defended Târgu-Jiu against a German force in 1916. It is a 98-feet-high (30 meter) column of zinc, brass-clad, cast-iron modules threaded onto a steel spine. The mayor of the town hit the sculpture hit it with a tractor. It was built between 1937 and 1938.
Artists statement
What my work is aiming at is, above all, realism: I pursue the inner, hidden reality, the very essence of objects in their own intrinsic fundamental nature; this is my only deep preoccupation."While many people felt that his art was abstract, he disagreed; he insisted on the representational nature of his works, asserting that they disclosed a fundamental, often concealed, reality. There was a slant in the column he didn't want to fix it be too much.
Your Opinion
I like the line. It blends in with the sky. The texture would be like smooth and rough.
