GUIDANCE
CLASS OF 2024 - A 'MUST READ' for JUNIORS and their Families!
College Visits -
Juniors - Now is the time to start planning your college visits and signing up to take the SAT/ACT for the spring (see links below to sign up for the remaining testing dates). If you are visiting a college, it is recommended that you schedule an official visit with the college's undergraduate admissions office. Most colleges keep records of students who visited and MAY give visiting students an application fee waiver.
Local colleges are a great place to start your visits...
Although there are many paths to chose from, just keep in mind that you do not have to go far to find a fantastic college or career; there are many great opportunities right in your own back yard. Take a moment to watch the video below and see what we mean.
Naviance -
It is time for the Class of 2024 to start building their list of Colleges I Am Thinking About List in Naviance. Attached below is a helpful guide for using the college search and tracking features available in the Naviance system. It is highly recommended that students and parents take a look at all Naviance has to offer.
Brag Sheets -
Brag Sheet completion is a Junior's first step in requesting Letters of Recommendations from their teachers. Letters of Recommendation are required by most colleges as part of the college application package and are often weighted heavily in the overall consideration process. Brag Sheets are due back in the Guidance Office by Monday MAY 1st. A blank Brag Sheet can be downloaded below for convenience.
Community Service -
30 hours of documented community service must be completed by the end of Junior Year. Please make sure your hours are documented by completing the downloadable CS LOG below and having it signed by the community service organizer or supervisor. Signed logs need to be handed into the Guidance Office, either all at once or one service opportunity at a time.
Major Changes to FASFA -
Please be aware that there are seven major changes coming to the FASFA process. There is an article below that details the changes and how they may impact families and students applying for financial aid in the coming years. Also, in the resource section, is a link to podcasts with other helpful college planning information.
BCTC East Campus Open House (New Date)
BCTC is still accepting applications for a few remaining programs with limited availability. Please reach out to your child's counselor to find out which programs are still available. Applications can be completed at https://berkscareer.com/apply-to-bctc/
