School Counselor Scoop

Congratulations Students and Families! You did it!

It is hard to believe our school year has ended and we have officially begun our summer break. I was hoping to be able to participate in the parade last week but had a family loss and was so sad that I was not able to attend! I am so proud of our students, families and staff for all their hard work and support both at school and at home. Please view my goodbye video and know how much I have missed you all!

Westwood Yearbooks are now ready for pick-up.

Parents may pick up yearbooks for Westwood students on Monday, 6/8 from 1:00-2:00 p.m and Wednesday, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Please write your student's last name as well as name of homeroom teacher with dark marker and large letters on a piece of paper. Place the paper so it is visible from the passenger's side of the vehicle. Please pull up as far as possible parallel to the curb in front of the school and someone will bring the yearbooks to your vehicle. JUST LIKE SUPPLY PICK-UP, ALL PASSENGERS MUST REMAIN IN THEIR VEHICLES.

At this time, there will not be extra yearbooks for purchase. If you feel you ordered a yearbook but were not on the list or want to purchase a yearbook, we will work with the company to see if we can honor requests as well as to clear up any issues. You may contact Mr. Reich at Dan.Reich@westg.org with your questions.

I want to take this opportunity to thank the PTO for their hard work and dedication to Westwood this year. While some plans were interrupted due to remote learning, PTO continued to seek ways to support both staff and students via remote avenues. PTO enthusiastically placed yard signs in our 5th graders yards in effort to encourage and celebrate their last year at Westwood. They also provided a free book and candy treat for each child's supply bag that you picked up.

PTO continues to meet via ZOOM to discuss activities and events for next year; they are working to adjust to work within the parameters of any restrictions due to COVID 19. If you wish to join this meetings and participate in these discussions, please do so. Every adult family member is automatically a member of PTO!

Thank you PTO for making this a positive, nurturing school year for our students!

A special thank you to all the volunteers for helping make this school year successful; everyone at school benefits from your willingness to help. A special thank you to all the parents who so quickly learned how to Zoom and use Google Classroom. We appreciate your patience, diligence, and support during remote learning.

A Special Reading by Visiting Author, Martha Attema

Many of you probably remember our visiting author, Martha Attema, who visited our school two years ago. (She is also the grandmother of Klazina & Alexander McKeigan) We read her book, The Paper Wagon, during "One School, One Book" two years ago. We all enjoyed the many activities connected to the book and loved getting to know Mrs. Attema. Below is a link to a video of Mrs. Attema sharing a reading of the book.....ENJOY!
