NEWS FLASH! BAND PARENT MEETING UPDATE!:
Parents and Students are highly encouraged to attend!
There will be two separate Band Parent meetings. This will allow us to cover the information that best pertains to your student.
Monday 8/13 - 6:00pm - Beginner/Cadet Bands (Brass, Woodwinds and Percussion). This meeting is for students and parents who are new to Discovery's Band program. It is a general overview of instrument rental, band commitments and a time to ask any questions you may have.
Tuesday 8/14 - 6:00pm - Symphonic and Concert Bands. This meeting is a General Band Parent meeting for veteran band students.

INSTRUMENT RENTALS:
If you need to rent an instrument from DMS Bands please print the rental agreement form and bring to school.
Instrument Rental fees are $60 per Semester
Percussion Usage Fee $60 per Semester (waived for Beginners)

We are still looking for a Fundraiser Volunteer if you are interested please contact us info@dmsbands.org
DMS Bands offer fundraising options to help offset student's band fees.
These will be discussed at the Band Parent Meetings.

Band Fees
BAND FEES:
All Fall band fees are due by Friday 8/31.

Band Class Fees can be paid online, cash or check.
If you pay fees online, send a copy of the receipt so we know you have made a payment.
We will collect other fees (Instrument Rental, Polo Shirt, Music Book) at the Band Parent Meetings or students can put payments in the Band Room mailbox.
Please mark student's name and what the payment is for on the envelope. Make checks payable to DMS Bands
All checks must include Drivers License number ant 2 phone numbers. This is a Madison City Schools policy.

Football Band (Pep Band)
-Note: CONCERT and SYMPHONIC classes join together after school at the HOME football games only to form the "Pep Band." The Pep Band is a combination of those classes, but no beginners. Football game performances are a required performance in the band curriculum (alternate assignments can be requested).
Please print your music! Visit our website - the pep music is on the right side! PLEASE be sure to only print your part of the music. Do not print the whole packet for each song!!!!

The Pep Band will also perform at March on Madison (TBD)
Uniform: Black Band polo, blue jeans and neutral tennis shoes. (Polos shirts have been ordered)
Uniforms can be worn to school on game day.
Music needs to be in a flip folder or memorized.
Flip Folders and Lyres (instrument specific) can be purchased at Madison Band Supply and Amazon.
Students may stay after school to get ready for the performance and eat a pregame dinner. Pizza will be served about 3:45pm.
Students can bring $15 cash for pregame pizza for the entire football season or $5 cash for each game day.
Please put the cash in an envelope with "pregame pizza" and student's name and place in the payment mailbox.
We need supplies and volunteers to help after school on Pep Band performance days.

Cadet/Beginner Band
Band Parents Meeting
*8/13 - Cadet Band Parents Meeting at 6 pm in DMS band room
*If your student is in our Cadet Band (Woodwind, Brass, or Percussion), please try to make arrangements to be at our first Band Parents Meeting. We will give a lot of important information about “being in the band” at this meeting along with answering any questions you may have. Students do not have to come, but they are welcome.
Google Classroom
Students first assignment this week was to join the Google Classroom for Band. If your child still has not joined, please encourage them to do so.
The Google Classroom code is: 8idro7
There have been some technical issues with logging in, so if your child cannot get logged in, have them come see Mrs. Sims or Mrs. Merritt tomorrow before/after school or during break.
Their first assignment on Google Classroom is to read the handbook and “Turn in” saying that they have read and agree. This is due August 14 by 11:59 pm.
Instruments
Every student should have received their instrument assignment last week. On Monday, we will make sure all students write down their instrument choice, so you can begin the process of acquiring an instrument and book if you have not done so already. Mrs. Merritt posted more information about choosing an instrument on the Google Classroom. Please see her announcement for additional details.
All students should have their instrument and band book by Monday, August 20.
If you feel unsure or have questions about anything, please write your questions down and bring them with you to the Band Parents Meeting on Monday, or you can email Mrs. Merritt or Mrs. Sims.

Fall Colorguard
Fall Guard:
(Mandatory) Fall Guard Tryout Clinics - August 15 and 16 - 3:30pm-5:00pm
Guard Tryouts - August 17 - 3:30pm-5:00pm.
Attendance all three days are required.
There is no fee for Fall Color Guard Tryouts - but there will be a fee for Fall Color Guard participation. This fee will be determined based on the number of girls participating.
Practices will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays - 3:30pm-5:00pm (Football Season).
Fall Guard will perform at select football games and March on Madison.
Uniform and Cost: TBD
(6 th Graders are not eligible to participate in Guard)
Fall Drumline Basics
Concert and Symphonic Band Students
Fall Drumline Basics will practice on Wednesdays - 3:30pm- 5:00pm (Football Season)
Practice starts this Wednesday.
Information will be covered at the Band Parent Meeting.
Cost: $10.00 per Semester
Attendance every week is strongly is encouraged!
Please bring a water bottle, practice is outside.

Private Lessons are strongly encouraged for all Band Students.

PERCUSSION STUDENTS: Please consider contacting former DMS and BJHS Bands Percussion student Matthew Ganatra for private instruction.
Current or upcoming percussion students would you be interested in some private instruction over the summer? Ganatra will work with you one-on-one to really ground in fundamentals, practice regimen, and general approach to the instruments you will encounter.
