WHS Staff Update
4/11/19
Monday's Agenda - 4/15
2:05 - 3:05
#WhateverItTakes
ISASP training and updates
Principal Learning
- Focus on what you can control, and don't worry about what you can't
- Set lofty goals and make a plan to meet them
- Hard work always pays off
- The sky is NOT the limit
Scott shared with the group that he was not a star student and didn't figure out his path to being an astronaut until after high school. He was in the bottom half of his graduating class, but he has accomplished so much as an adult. It made me think about our students. We have no idea what our students will be come in the future. Our job is to provide hope and help them accomplish completion of high school so they don't close the door to future opportunities.
National Day of Silence, Friday April 12th
- They will all have a black and maroon pin on if they are participating.
- They will only hand out the cards and stickers during passing time, during their lunch, or before/after school.
- No class time should be lost for those activities.
- All three high schools in SC will be participating tomorrow as a joint project.
Spring is in the air!
4th Quarter Grading Timeline
New Iowa Assessment ISASP Update
Tentative testing schedule:
May 1 - Science, 10th grade only
May 2 - Language & Writing
May 3 - Math & Reading
We will be running an adjusted schedule May 1-3, so you can plan for about 45 minute classes each day. Students will go to all blocks, but only Wall-to-wall students will travel to off-campus classes.
As we continue to prepare for the ISASP and questions come up please post on our Discussion Board. I appreciate all who have posted already. It has allowed me to ask other questions that I hadn't thought of yet to District administrators. The more we figure out ahead of time, the smoother the testing will go.

Upcoming Surveys for students
May 1st - NCRC: 12th graders will take the NCRC while others are taking the ISASP. This assessment measures career readiness.
May 14/15 - Covaitatily: this survey will be given again to 9th and 11th graders during homeroom. This survey replaced teen screen and is a valuable tool for us as we look at helping the Whole Child.
Staffing 2019-2020 Update
Class relocated??
Clear communication allows us to locate students for dismissals and/or notes in a timely manner.
SPRING DUTIES 2019
Close Reading - Invite Admin in for Observations
This researched-based strategy is effective in all content areas. For the rest of this year, each teacher should invite an administrator in to watch a Close Reading lesson. We are collecting walk-through data around this strategy 6-12 across the District.
When you implement this strategy please send an invitation to April and/or your evaluator. All teachers should send an invitation at least two times before the end of the year.
If you need more support in implementing this strategy, please reach out to Kristen or Tyson.
