The bodies of water that surround South Africa:
- Indian ocean- The third largest ocean in the world. The Indian Ocean boarders Asia, Australia, and Africa.
- South Atlantic ocean- The second largest ocean in the world. The Atlantic ocean boarders South America and Africa.
South Africa's natural resources are:
- Coal
- Iron
- Copper
- Gems
- Manganese
- Chromium
- Gold
- Platinum
- Ore
- Tin
- Antimony
- Natural Gas
- Nickel
Ethnic Groups:
Until 1991, South African law divided the population into four major racial categories. Black population accounts 75% of the South Africa's entire population. The Whites who account for about 13% of the population. The Indians who account for around 3 % and the Coloreds who are mixed White and Black descent and account for 9% of the population.
Apartheid in the 1930s:
Racial segregation in South Africa began in colonial times under Dutch and British rule. However, apartheid as an official policy was introduced following the general election in 1948. New legislation classified inhabitants into four groups.
The first president of Africa:
The South African general election of 1994 was an election held in South Africa to mark the end of apartheid, therefore also the first held with universal adult suffrage. The election was conducted under the direction of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC). Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was a significate president because of his political rights that he made.
