Welcome from the Executive Director of Special Education for KISD
Welcome back to our wonderful Killeen ISD families. The beginning of a new school year, like the dawning of a new day, reminds us that the future holds infinite possibilities. I hope that your summer was relaxing, filled with adventures and good health. I know that we are about to begin a great school year filled with hope, vision, and excitement. KISD has a faculty and staff that believes in the promise of educational excellence. I am confident that we will blaze a trail filled with success and accomplishment as we unite together, home and school, to launch the best year yet for our students; your child(ren).
In Service,
Dr. Jan Peronto
Executive Director for Special Education

Killeen ISD Special Olympics
Killeen ISD Special Olympics is open to Killeen ISD students ages 8 years and older with an intellectual disability and/or a closely related disability with functional limitations in both general learning and adaptive skills. We provide sports training and athletic competitions in the areas of bowling and in track & field through Special Olympics of Texas. Students are not only given continued opportunities to improve physical fitness but are provided equal opportunities to build life long friendships with fellow athletes in our school district. We are always looking for volunteer coaches to help us help our students and to grow our program. For more information, please visit www.killeenisd.org/special_education and click on the Special Olympics tab on the right.
Killeen ISD Special Olympics Dream Team Bowling Team
To the Community, To Parents, And Especially To Our Special Olympics Athletes:
Due to COVID-19 , Special Olympics of Texas has suspended all indoor team sports for the 2021-22 School Year.
In ensuring Killeen ISD is in compliance with Special Olympics of Texas's decision, there will not be a KISD Special Olympics bowling dream team season for the 2021-2022 school year.
It is my sincerest hope and prayer that we will return for the 2022-2023 school year, strong and ready to 'talk turkeys' once again.
Remain safe and healthy.

Sincerely,
Jsanean R. Mark

Helpful Tips as the School Year Begins
While we plan and prepare for smooth beginnings, sometimes the best laid plans need a little tweaking before things run smoothly. To help ensure your child's start to the new school year is running smoothly, please consider the following tips as we work together to help ensure your student has a successful school year.
Do you have a copy of your student's Individual Education Plan? We realize the summer months have passed and there is a chance paperwork may have gotten misplaced. If you are in need of a copy of your student's IEP, please contact your campus facilitator or your student's case manager for a copy.
It is always good practice to go through the services in your student's IEP and make sure that the services identified in the IEP are a part of your student's class schedule. If you are not sure, please reach out to your campus facilitator or your student's case manager.
Food For Thought:
Every teacher, administrator, student, and parent is on a journey together through the world of education. Each of us bring something special to the table. Let's support each other, be kind to each other, but most importantly, remember we are all members of the same community. We are in this together.
