The beginning of the school year means a lot of things. One of the things is - MAPS Testing. MAPS means Measures of Academic Progress. The MAPS test is quite an important test, and we only have one every trimester. The test is divided into two parts, math and reading. The reading test consists of approximately 40 questions, while the math test consists of approximately 50 questions. The MAPS test will adjust its difficulty based on your level. At the end, you get a score sheet that has your progress, when you complete the test, you can go on Compass Learning. Compass Learning will give you learning activities based on your scores on the MAPS test, and will help you improve your grades. No matter how good you are, your goal is to work hard and get a better score on your MAPS test.
Tips for MAPS testing
Before MAPS Test
Know when you are going to take the MAPS test so you can prepare
During MAPS test
Use your tools available in the MAPS test
Take your time, the MAPS test is not timed
ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST!
After MAPS test
- Go on compass Learning to improve your grades
THANK YOU!
I am so touched by everyone's generous classroom donations and all of the parents that have signed up to volunteer in our room. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Classroom Supplies- Thank you to the Zhang Family, Budikentjana Family, Wu Family, the Tecca Family & our "Anonymous Family" for your generous donations! They are greatly appreciated! If you haven't had time to check out our classroom wish list, it can be found at: https://goo.gl/41RQch
Room Parents- Thank you Katia Axel, Sunny Walsh & Laurie Francis! They will be helping to coordinate events and communicate happenings in our room, as well as school events. Thank you in advance for your time and support!
Team P.E. - Thank you to Jan Gleisner for volunteering to help lead one of our stations during or 5th and 6th grade Team PE on Mondays from 2:15-2:48!
Media Center- Thank you to Katia Axel for signing up to volunteer in our Media Center on Wednesdays from 10:40-11:40 am!
Friday Math Problem Solving - Thank you Haihui Yu, Sean Tram, Junhua Fan, Budi Budikentjana and Malini Vittal for volunteering to help with our Friday Problem Solving! We can always use 1 or 2 more parent volunteers so that the groups are a bit smaller. Remember, there is no need to be a mathematician; your role is more of a facilitator. We would like to begin on Friday, October 9th, but I will contact you within the next week to confirm the date and time.
***FYI from our Office: All volunteers need an up-to-date TB test on file with our office prior to volunteering.***
6th Grade Camp!
Camp Cuyamaca is right around the corner this year (October 19-23). Permission slips and health forms required for camp were sent home with students on September 11th. Camp counselors visited our school on September 14th to give students & parents a preview of what’s to come.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me or Kathy Schmedding in the office if there is a financial situation that makes camp payments difficult. We never turn a student away... after all, camp is an extension of school, so attendance is expected.
This will be my first time attending 6th grade camp, and I am SO EXCITED! I promise to look after and care for your babies as though they were my own......and just so Camp is not too hard on you, I will post pictures on our class Wiki (still under construction) while we are up there. You will get to see the fun your kids are having and know they are in good hands. If you want more information on Camp, here is a link to their website:
