Linn Elementary School ------- February 24, 2016
Summer School 2016
Summer school time is right around the corner! We have had many calls and questions as families are starting to plan. The summer school dates will be Monday, May 23 to Friday, June 24 with no classes on Memorial Day Monday, May 30th. The school day will go from 8am to 3pm. Students may be dropped off at school after 7:30am. We will have summer school bus service. This will be our school session at the old campus. The new elementary building will be ready for our students in August. We will have summer classes for students entering into kindergarten - 8th grade, Driver's Education, and credit recovery for upper level students.
NEEDED: We would love any donations of Kleenex and Lysol wipes at the school office! We use these throughout the building and we are running low! We appreciate your support!
Wild about Character!
Each month we will have a Wildcat Character Trait. Our trait for February is honesty.
Our January students of the month went to visit Popcorn Buddha on Friday, February 5. They had a great time and were able to sample popcorn and learn about the local business. Here are our character trait winners for Respect for this month. We have one student from each classroom represented.

Teacher Spotlight - Mrs. Robyn Baker, Elementary Librarian
Tell me about your family-
I am married to Kurt Baker, a Linn Elementary and Linn High School graduate. We have two children, Myra (6th grade) and Reid (2nd grade).
Tell me about your education and experience?
I graduated from Fulton High School, and I started college at William Jewell in Liberty, Missouri. I was going to be a physical therapist, but quickly learned how important science is and that it might not be my best subject. I transferred to University of Missouri-Columbia (MIZ-ZOU) and graduated with a bachelor degree in Agricultural Journalism. I worked in the business world for several years and then was fortunate to be hired as the library aide at Linn R-II. Since then I have decided to go back to school and complete my teacher certification and my Masters Degree in Library Science. I am doing all of my classes online, a huge difference from my undergraduate years.
What did you want to be when you were little?
I "pretended" to be a lot of things when I was little. My cousin and I always played "office" and "library", so I guess I have come full circle in becoming a librarian.
What are you good at doing?
My kids might say differently, but I feel like I am good at being a mom, and I hope I am a good friend.
What makes you happy?
Seeing my family happy and kids at school happy. We love to have people over to our house and be able to spend time with others and enjoy time together. On a practical note, I really am happy doing dishes...odd thing!
What is your favorite thing to do?
I enjoy being with my family. We love to go floating in the summer, and I even get to paddle my own kayak. We also enjoy traveling and watching Cardinal baseball. If it is just me I am perfectly happy to just sit and read a good book!
What is a favorite Linn Elementary memory?
Oh my, there have been some fun times in my 8 years at Linn Elementary. Honestly, I really enjoyed hearing our kids sing. I love hearing, "God Bless the USA" at the Veteran's Day Assembly, and I am really enjoying singing the morning assembly song, "You Can Count on Me." I think singing makes people happy and it is great to listen to that excitement.
Teacher Spotlight - Ms. Joyce Everett, Elementary Counselor
Tell me about your family-
I have two children; Austin is a freshman who enjoys performing. He is involved in choir, drama, FFA, RAK, Student Council and TREND/SADD. April is in kindergarten. She is currently playing basketball. Both kids keep me very busy with homework and after school activities.
Tell me about your education and experience?
What did you want to be when you were little?
I wanted to be a math teacher or an accountant. I actually did not get along with my high school counselor but, when I went to college and took my first psychology class - I was hooked.
What are you good at doing?
I am a good listener even when people think I might not be listening.
What makes you happy?
Spending time with my family and friends.
What is your favorite thing to do?
Driving around to new places, exploring and people watching.
What is a favorite Linn Elementary memory?
It is hard to narrow this down, I have lots of great memories from watching students grow over the years, to seeing smiles on faces when they "finally" understand something. To making the video with all the staff to the song, "I'm Happy" or when Mrs. Baker and I dressed up like elves for Christmas one year and we handed out cookies to all the students while they got to visit with Santa Claus.
Teacher Spotlight - Mrs. Christy Warren, Fourth Grade
Tell me about your family-
My family and I moved here from Illinois in 2004. I am married to a salesman, and I have two daughters. My oldest, Ashton, lives in Fulton, and is going to have a baby in May. My youngest, Chalyn, is currently studying abroad in Portugal and in her junior year in high school. I also have five rescue dogs; all of which are part of my family as well.
Tell me about your education and experience-
I was a licensed optician for nine years before pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. I was a substitute in our school district off and on through those years and became quite attached to the classroom. My last semester of nursing school, I changed my major and started over with a degree in education. My only regret is that I did not do it sooner. So, when you add it all up; I was a paraprofessional in Linn for one year, a substitute for ten years, and am now a classroom teacher in my third year.
What did you want to be when you were little?
When I was young, I played school nearly every day with my dolls, stuffed animals, and anyone else who would play with me. It was only as I got older, I felt a passion for nursing... but, now I realize it was because I want to help others, which is exactly what a teacher gets to do!
What are you good at doing?
I love to discover and put to use my new ideas, cook and play the piano. I'm addicted to Pinterest and have lesson plans created for many years in the classroom!
What makes you happy?
Family of course makes me happy. Teaching makes me happy as well. I love when children are excited about learning. I also have to say five wagging tails greeting me after a long and trying day makes me happy, too. But, all of this happiness would not exist without God, so I must put him as the reason for my happiness!
What is your favorite thing to do?
My favorite things to do outside my classroom is to cook. I love to try new things, come up with my own recipes, and share with others.
What is a favorite Linn Elementary memory?
My favorite Linn Elementary memory was the day I was told I was hired to teach fourth grade. I have so many memories as well, but that one sticks out the most. It was truly a life changing moment to know that I was going to be able to fulfill a dream I had carried for a long time.
Teacher Spotlight - Mrs. Kathy Muenks, Fourth Grade
Tell me about your family-
I am married to John, who is a farmer. We live in Loose Creek. I have two daughters, Jennifer and Jessica. Jennifer is married and living in Florida. My other daughter is married with two sons, Dylan and Lyric. My third grandson will be here in March. Can't wait!!
Tell me about your education and experience-
I received my teaching degree from Lincoln University. I continued on and received my Masters Degree from Williams Woods University. I also have an additional 32 hours through Missouri Department of Conservation.
What did you want to be when you were little?
I always wanted to be a teacher. I had a lady who had retired from teaching who gave me lots of books and papers that weren't being used anymore. I took that opportunity to teach the younger kids when I babysat them.
What are you good at doing?
I am good at being a positive role model. I try to instill in my students that being happy is so much better than focusing on negative things around us. I also like to help people. I worked 11 years in a hospital before becoming a teacher and loved helping the patients.
What makes you happy?
My family. I have family all over and I enjoy spending time with them as much as possible. I would also have to say that Summer Break makes me happy too.
What is your favorite thing to do?
My favorite thing to do is walk. I find this time relaxing. I also like to travel.
What is a favorite Linn Elementary memory?
The first time I had a student tell me how important I was in her life. There is nothing better than knowing that I have made a difference in the lives of my students. I still have students who will come back and visit with years later and I love that!
I wanted to add my worst memory: The day we went to Big Surf in Summer School and I forgot to bring the cooler of food for the students! Luckily, everyone else had lots of food and drinks to share so my students didn't go hungry that day. Lesson learned: the cooler is the first thing that goes on the bus!
