Why this book is a first person point of view
Characterization
The main character David has lots of characterization, one being he came from possibly richest family there was.
Second, he was astonished that he was beat in his families game.
Also his rich father wanted the army to take him out because he wanted him to run the family business but instead David went into the army.
Lastly, he still follows his brother after everything he has done which shows that he cares for his family.
Theme
For example David stands up for his younger brother and says he cant help anymore to get his younger brother to pick up his act. Then his brother goes into drugs and disappears from him.
Later in the story David doesn't want his brother to go into the war but his brother still goes in. Then, when David wants to go into the war his brother was like go ahead I don't care, or so it seems.
Figurative Language
Another is a simile on page 205,"It felt like cold blooded murder." This is important because it expresses how he feels killing a bunch of people for the first time when they have done nothing wrong in his mind.
