Conrad Newsletter
March 2020
What's happening this month...
First, a huge thank you to all of you who attended Parent Teacher Conferences. The teachers love to share with you all the growth your children have made, and they have made huge growth this year! Also, thank you for participating in the artwork fundraiser. That was by far the most meaningful and rewarding fundraiser. We raised over $250! And, another thank you for completing our Family Events Survey. We had over 100 responses! I had to laugh as I entered the responses to see that a good majority of our students enjoyed events when they got to eat CANDY. But, everybody enjoyed DANCING! The results of the Family Event Survey are shared here at this link and on our Conrad website.
On March 9th, our parents of Rising Kindergarten students (*students who will be 5 by October 1, 2020) will have the opportunity to visit and hear about Kindergarten at their home school from 4:30-5:30 PM. A teacher or representative from Conrad will be at the four different town elementary schools to help welcome you, and then the town school administration and their Kindergarten team will present information to help with the transition to Kindergarten. Please plan on attending at your child's home school and let any other families who have Kindergarten aged children know to attend with you. A reminder flyer will be going home next week to those eligible for Kindergarten.
Some of you may be receiving invitations for a Kindergarten transition meeting. These meetings are for students who are receiving special education services and whose IEP will transfer to the elementary school. This allows for both Preschool and Kindergarten teams to discuss the student's strengths, needs, and services. Parents are part of the special education team so they also attend the meeting. Please know that Conrad is working with all four elementary schools with scheduling and there is not a lot of wiggle room to reschedule with missed meetings. We appreciate the partnership and understanding as we work through this busy time of year!
Our students will have class photos taken on March 12th throughout the day. These photos are so fun to have for year's to come and look back on how little your child was! I loved displaying my oldest son's class pictures at his senior graduation and seeing how grown his friends and he had come. They also enjoyed looking at how little they use to be.
Reading Week will take place the week of March 17-20th. There will be dress up days and the Scholastic Book Fair will be held in the Cloud Room throughout the week. Reading Night will be on Tuesday, 17th from 4:30-6:00. Each classroom will have a different activity that is connected to literacy and you are free to visit as many as you would like. We hope to see you all there!
A few parent involvement opportunities that are in the month include the following:
- Cooking Matters for Parents classes are on Mondays from 5:00-7:00 PM at Conrad
- DAAC meeting on Wednesday, March 4th from 4:15-5:45 PM in District Board Room
- PTO meeting on Friday, March 13th from 8:30-9:30
- Volunteering time with set up, working, and tear down of the Book Fair the week of March 16th-20th. Look for a Sign Up Genius.
- Volunteering in classrooms OR taking home projects to cut, prep, etc.
Spring Break will be the week of March 23rd-27th. I hope you all get a chance to relax and enjoy! We will see you all back on Tuesday, March 30th.
The Importance of Hand Washing
We will also remind our students of proper ways to sneeze and cough- within their elbow or in their shirt. We appreciate your help with reinforcing these practices at home, too.
I will also be changing up my High Five welcomes at the door. We'll find other ways to greet each other and to help stop the spread of germs.
