Expressive Arts Open Studio in NYC
SORRY — THIS DEADLINE HAS PASSED
A Special Project of the Expressive Therapies Summit
WHO WE ARE
Expressive Media (EMI) is a nonprofit organization co-founded in 1985 by pioneer art therapist, psychologist, and analyst, Judith A. Rubin, with her colleague Eleanor Irwin, pioneer drama therapist, psychodramatist, and analyst. EMI's focus is the production and distribution of films demonstrating best practices in the expressive arts in therapy. EMI's Institute of the Arts in Healing furthers its educational mission to "extend the healing power of the arts" to people of all ages. The Expressive Therapies Summit was created in 2010 to expand the educational mission of EMI. Based in Manhattan, the Summit has rapidly grown to the largest training event of its kind. This year, we seek to launch a new project: to demonstrate the healing power of the arts to the general public with an Open Studio situated directly in midtown Manhattan.
OUR MISSION
- Offer a welcoming space where anyone can engage in creative self expression
- Raise awareness and provide education about the Creative Arts Therapies as professions (art, music, dance, drama, poetry, psychodrama, play)
- Provide a juried-art show and expressive arts mini-workshops, in addition to a free arts-making space in the center of New York City, all open to the community.
- Invite local groups to bring their members in to participate in our offerings
The Impact of Your Support
If You Can Contribute . . . We Can . . .
- Give back to the NYC community. The Expressive Arts Open Studio is a place where everyone can participate. The space will be stocked with creative supplies so that people can drop in and spend part of their day making, watching, learning, engaging, and sharing through the arts!
- Cover the costs of this free service, making this dream a reality, so that creativity can happen!
- Invite local mental health and social service organizations and workers who serve the needs of the community to bring their staff, co-workers, and clients in to participate and enjoy.
OUR DEADLINE IS NEAR — PLEASE DONATE!
Additionally, all entry fees from our juried show, OUTSIDE THE LINES will be used to underwrite the expense of the space, equipment, and supplies.
Please visit our INDIEGOGO page today and donate whatever you can to make this unique project possible. Even if you can't join us at the Summit, your spirit will be there with us if we can start to build this very special Summit community service for years to come.
