Family Updates for the Week of September 4, 2023
Principal Corner
Dear Ira B. Jones Families:
What an amazing first week of school it has been! Students and teachers are getting acquainted with each other and are building strong classroom communities. Even though week two will be a short week, I'm confident that our students will return eager to learn.
We announced on Friday afternoon that Ms. West will be promoted to a new position in our district as the new assistant Director at the Educational Career Academy, an alternative program in our district. Although we are sad to see her go, we are happy to know that this is Ms. West's dream job! She will have the opportunity to work with middle and high schoolers in helping them determine their career and college pathways. We have started the hiring process for a new Assistant Principal at our school and will keep you updated!
As a reminder, parents and caregivers will not be allowed to walk their students into the building starting Tuesday. We understand that this safety measure may not be very popular, but we urge everyone to respect and follow this rule as a precaution for the safety of all students.
Lastly, we are making some adjustments to our dismissal procedures. Firstly, please make any changes to your student's dismissal schedule with your child's teacher. You can also contact the main office by 2:00 if you cannot reach your child's teacher. However, please remember that your child's teacher has many schedules to keep track of, and they teach throughout the day. Therefore, sending a note or a message first thing in the morning can help ensure we will get your child where they need to be.
We are printing more car placards to ensure everyone has one. Please put them in the dash of your car window. Also, if your child is a walker, bring that placard with you to show the person on duty. This is a change and a way to ensure we are releasing the child to the right person. We appreciate your cooperation with this.
I invite you to visit our school's website and Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/irabjones/ and follow us on Twitter @Principal_IBJ and Instagram @IraB.JonesElementary. These will serve as a resource tool for all upcoming events, the student/family handbook, and important reminders, and you can catch up with all the wonderful things our students and teachers are doing. I also send out a weekly family newsletter. Please ensure we have updated contact information so you can stay informed of all our school happenings.
As a school leader and a parent, I understand the necessity of healthy communication between families and the school. I welcome your questions, celebrations, or concerns at any time. You can reach me by calling the school at 828.350.6700 or emailing me at ruafika.cobb@acsgmail.net.

Title I Home/School Compact & Parent Family Engagement Plan
Please check your child's home-to-school folder for our Title I Home/School Compact and Family Engagement Plan. If you still need to, please return the compact as soon as possible.
The compact is a mutual agreement between the school, students, and parents/caregivers. It outlines how we can collaborate to ensure that all students have access to high-quality curriculum and instruction and receive the necessary support to achieve and exceed grade-level standards.
Once you have read and understood the document, please sign the Parent Signature Page and return it to your child's teacher. It is important that we receive 100% of the forms back. Please click the link below if you prefer a digital copy of the document.
