Learning Targets and the Teacher Evaluation
So we couldn't help but notice the tremendous work everyone is doing to post their whole group and small group learning targets. The great news is that this directly supports three areas of the Teacher Evaluation:
- Standard 1: Professional Knowledge competency 3
- Standard 2: Instructional Planning competencies 2 and 3
- Standard 3: Instructional Delivery competency 1
This is what I call a true win - win! One "win" for the students and another "win" for the teacher. #awesomesauce!
Joy Fair
As outlined in Compass to 2020, Goal 4 includes a focus on improving working conditions and fostering a culture of respect among all staff. To support this effort, the Office of Professional Growth and Innovation is sponsoring a Joy Fair on Feb. 22 from 5-7 p.m. at College Park Elementary School.
This event is an opportunity for all staff to learn strategies focused on transforming classroom environments and school cultures by maximizing joy and motivation for both staff and students. Attendees will have the opportunity to browse interactive learning stations that will be hosted by Joy Ambassadors, staff who have committed to leading and supporting joy within their classrooms and schools.
And one of those schools will be ours! Please come out in support of the work we do every day for every child to make this a joyful place to learn and work!
Digital Learning Day is Feb. 23, 2017
The Virginia Department of Education is encouraging all schools to participate in Digital Learning Day, Feb. 23. This event is designed to celebrate digital learning in addition to transformational teaching and learning practices. This is also a perfect time to revisit internet safety and digital citizenship. Visit Digital Learning Day to learn more about this event and Virginia Department of Education for other technology initiatives. Internet safety and digital citizenship resources have been curated by Instructional Technology Specialists to share at each school. Technology is being integrated in so many wonderful ways at Trantwood, I also encourage classes to invite parents in for a visit on this day so they can see the plethora of digital tools being used in our classrooms to inspire and engage our learners.
Career Teacher Application
The Career Teacher Application for 2017 will be available for downloading from the Intranet (Forms/Human Resources/Career Teacher Application) beginning in February.
Every teacher requesting consideration for a Career Teacher allowance needs to:
- Complete the 2017 Career Teacher Application.
- Collect supporting documentation as directed by the building principal to verify actions in each of the four categories of the form. (The teacher keeps all of the supporting documentation with a copy of the completed application for their records.)
- Request the signature of the building principal on the cover sheet between Feb. 9, 2017, and the last day of school, June 16, 2017.
- If applicable, include a copy of the National Board Certification if it is not already on file in the Licensure office.
All applications are scanned by a designated school office staff member into LaserFiche and into the LaserFiche Document Drop folder using the Career Teacher Application Template. Once the legible scanning of the application is completed and the Career Teacher Template is completed for the Laser Fiche Drop Folder, please return the originals to the teacher for their records.
The final day for submission is June 30, 2017. Emails will be sent to applicants to indicate receipt of the application and also to notify approval or denial of the allowance. Teachers with questions about the Career Teacher Application or those who need assistance with the completion of the application may contact Dianne Kinnison, human resources specialist, in the Department of Human Resources at 263-1133 or Dianne.Kinnison@VBSchools.com.
2017 SOL Item and Test Review Committee
