ESOL WIDA Testing Update
PTO Update
2. Pie in the face - The annual "Pie in the Face" tradition at the Run-A-Thon has been voted out. The PTO is asking for suggestions from teachers to replace this event. If you have a fun idea, please share it and I will pass it on to the PTO.
There will be no PTO meeting in December. The next PTO meeting will be Jan. 17, 2017 at 6:30.
Safety Committee Notes
o Weekly Faculty E-News:
? Half of our reported faculty accidents requiring workmen’s comp are a result of Slips, Trips, & Falls. Be observant about your surroundings and follow district & OSHA protocol.
? Please fill out the health form every time you send a student to Ms. Cranford. She is still getting many students without written slips from their teachers.
? All grades report that teachers are often late to morning duty which leaves students unattended. WAKE UP!
o Suggestions from safety committee to administration:
? A study of Ebinport’s Loss Reports for Workmen’s Comp raised the following:
? Brian, what are the best methods for non-CPI teachers to break up a fist fight?
? Teachers should not be responsible for moving large, classroom furniture at the end of the year or the beginning of the year.
? The safety committee recommends that the morning assistant on duty at the bus loop waits outside at the loop until all buses have arrived or until 7:15 when safety patrol is stationed by the gates. This should minimize students being unattended.
? 2nd grade reports a routine problem with a teacher in their group who does not show up to work on time to get her kids in the morning. No other grades reported this as a common problem.
? All grades report that teachers are often late to morning duty which leaves students unattended.
? Extra Notes:
o Breakfast assistants requested IEP & other emergency info on kids
? Mrs. Cranford has provided an email list of all students with health issues. This is listed by teacher.
o Safety committee will be working to update the emergency Tri-fold book for our facility over the course of the next few meetings.
Student Leadership
Student Ambassadors (Lisa Rutledge)
We still need several 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade teachers to submit names for Student Ambassadors. Please send your names to Mrs. Rutledge ASAP!
These students will help with escorting visitors during walk-throughs, art shows, musical functions, etc.
Junior Beta Club (Mandy Riley)
Beta club is continuing to meet on the 3rd Friday of each month. The Christmas candy cane Christmas sell went well. Money raised will be used to purchase supplies and special items for BC. Mrs. Riley hopes to have a small trip last week of school for Beta members pending principal approval. Service hours are going well for students. Students created a bulletin board to showcase pictures of service hour activities. Discussed ideas in lieu of normal lollipop sells in February. Surprise Eggs were suggested for Easter. We still need to set a date for spring induction.
Betas are bringing in books for the Little Free Library and canned food for Pilgrims Inn and community needs.
Eagle Eyes (Marco Vaughan)
We now have thirty -four 4th grade students serving kindergarten students. Kindergarteners are all reading books, using 1:1 matching, and working on sight words.
Beautification Committee Notes
Beautification Committee Meeting 3:00
January 18, 2017
Minutes
1. In attendance:
· Jane Parrish
· Stacy Doyle
· Kim George
· Kathy Guarino
· Christina Nassy
2. HOW WE WORK
· We start and end on time.
· Agendas will be provided at each meeting.
· We will speak honestly.
· We will share the work.
· We will support decisions made by the committee.
3. OLD BUSINESS-
· Decorating the ‘New” lobby outside cafeteria was accomplished while we met. These decorations will stay in place until March 1 when it will change to St. Patrick’s Day GREEN!
· The stage is mostly CLEAN! There is a large fan, an old scale, and a big piece of wooden furniture that needs to be claimed or carried off. We need to know what to do with the fan and scale, or we can get Operations to come pick them up when they get the piece of furniture.
· LOST and FOUND was carried off for donation right before WINTER BREAK. We will place the buckets for items at the temporary wall outside of the old office with signs for where to place each item and reminders for students to look for their lost belongings. When we are ready to display them for students to look for their items, they will be spread out on the K5 hall for classes to be brought to look through. A suggestion was made that when we are displaying items for students that a message to parents to check the LOST and FOUND be placed on the electronic sign each time.
· The palms are mostly DEAD. They have been moved to K5 area to get sun. Once the construction is complete we will replace them if the new office has a place for them. Mrs. Malone has them in her tender care. She has researched the care of palms and thinks we may have been over-watering them. The root ball in the pot with no visible plant has rotted, so we can plant something different in that pot in the meantime.
· PTO meets again on February 23, and Ms. Parrish has asked Mrs. Yi to put this on their agenda to be discussed. Ms. Parrish will attend the PTO meeting to help get the info to them.
4. New Business
