Free Admission to Winter Concert
Enjoy the sounds of the season. Come support the music department and experience their winter concert. Admission is free, so please bring family and friends to enjoy a night of quality live music. The program will take place in the Performing Arts Center on Friday, December 13th, 6:30 pm and feature both Concert Band and Orchestra. Doors open at 6:15 pm. Donations will be accepted at the door.
CORE Academy
The 12-week progress reports were distributed and mailed home on Friday, December 6. Students who have earned below a 2.0 GPA have been placed on the LOP (Loss of Privileges List) until the end of the semester (January 25, 2020). If this is the case for your student, they are encouraged to attend the Saturday Core Academy on December 14, 8 am, Rm. B22 to get help with completing or making-up assignments, receiving additional instruction in core academic content, or receiving help to understand concepts with which they may be struggling. All students are welcome to participate; sign up in advance. Click on the picture to get more information to help students prepare for their CORE Academy session. Students should come with work to complete.
Scholarship Newsletter Available
Scholarship season is here. Scholarships are available for students from a variety of different sources. Mrs. Sponix-Rust just released the December 2019/January 2020 edition of the Show Me the Money newsletter, which contains many new scholarships. Many applications are available online or through Naviance, which also offers access to a significant number of scholarships. The San Diego Foundation provides a common application that gives access to 100 different scholarships. In general, most scholarship applications have a deadline of February or March. Students are encouraged to pay attention to the scholarship requirements and deadlines, and set aside time to apply. It's well worth the effort.
US San Diego Extension Opportunities
There are unique opportunities available for high school students and parents at UC San Diego Extension through their Futures program. Students or parents can register for courses in IOS programming, web development, business management or life science research. These are tuition based programs, however full ride scholarships are available. These programs offer students the opportunity to explore career and college pathways within the computer science field. Students also obtain soft skills such as resume building and interview techniques in preparation for entrance into the workforce. Upon completion of a pathway, students earn a UC San Diego Extension Award of Completion and pre-college credits to use on college applications and resumes.
