Principal's Message for February 4, 2016

Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Members,

Last Friday, the Warren School 5th grade class was one of only seven classes in Connecticut that was invited to the Old State House to witness the inauguration of Connecticut's Kid Governor, Elena Tipton. This special opportunity came about because Mrs. Twyeffort selected the Connecticut Kid Governor Program as a way to teach her students about civics and government in a "real world" manner. As a result of this program, Abby Wayland-Smith was elected by her classmates to represent Warren School in the bid for Kid Governor, and was one of seven finalists in the state! For more information about this incredible program, and to see Abby's campaign speech, click here.

Here is a message from Mrs. Twyeffort about Friday's event:

The fifth graders visited the Old State House on January 29, 2016. We were given a special invitation to attend the CT Kid Governor Inauguration of Elena Tipton. Our very own Abby Wayland-Smith participated in a press conference at this event. She ran for CT Kid Governor this fall with an impressive campaign to save Connecticut bats.

Following the inauguration ceremony, the class collaborated in station activities throughout the building to gain a realistic experience with the three branches of government. The class learned about the three branches as they visited historic chambers and met representatives from our State government.

The class will continue Abby's campaign as we study Connecticut bats in the upcoming weeks. Congratulations to Abby and the fifth graders at Warren School for their participation in this worthy project!

Why is 100 so important?

On Monday, Warren students will celebrate the 100th day of school. Why is this such a big deal? See Mrs. Brady's message here to find out!
