January Newsletter
Blain Elementary School
A Message from Mr. Young
During the month of January, our Character Education focus will be on the character trait of self-control. We will be working with students to help them make appropriate choices, think before they act, control their emotions, and build healthy habits. Look for our next Character Education Newsletter to come out in a few weeks.
We have several events and activities planned for the coming weeks. Information will soon be coming home for our annual Jump Rope for Heart to support the American Heart Association. Literacy Night is scheduled for the evening of Wednesday, January 22 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. We had a great turn out last year and are excited to host this event again this year. Information regarding Girls on the Run was sent out before break and registration is now open for our Spring GOTR team.
Thank you for all of your support as we continue to strive to make Blain a safe and happy place for all of our students.

Libraries are a great FREE resource for families! You can get a free library card at the Community Library of Western Perry County in Blain. With this card, you will have access to all kinds of free digital content, books, computers, DVDs, and more!
Do you read your books on a Kindle, tablet, or other mobile device? Get a library card and you will have access to thousands of free on-line books on the Capital Area Overdrive system. The best part is that you never need to worry about late fines or returning them to the library. They just disappear from your device when your time has expired. What a great way to get your children to read more! Download books to their tablet or mobile device!
Thank you to all of the families that participated in the Christmas Trivia Book Raffle. Ten students were randomly chosen to receive a free book. In addition, the following students were "Caught Reading" by their families and received a book: Kiernan Brady, Ryan Brogan-Spacht, Lauryl Fedder, Atlanta & Dominik Garman, EmmaJo Mitchell, Luke & Alice Neff, Ava Pierce, Caleb Reisinger, Madisyn Smith, and Kloe Strong! I would love to see your child reading. Snap a pic and email it to me at sotoole@westperry.org. I will put your child's picture on my reading wall and also let him/her choose a FREE book.
Families Should Read "A Latte!" Guess the Missing Drink! Return this completed trivia quiz, write the answers on a slip of paper, or email sotoole@westperry.org for a chance to win a free book!
