ReQuest
A Reading Strategy
Thinking and Predicting
1. The strategy is used to help students learn to develop their own questioning while reading to enable them to better and more actively comprehend.
2. The strategy has been used to successfully help students recognize different types of questions and how to locate the answers. It allows students to set their own purpose for reading.
3 I would use the ReQuest procedure with students who lack confidence in their ability to understand and remember what they have read.
4. The students' questioning skills are reinforced. The student develops the metacognitive habit of monitoring their own comprehension (Manzo, Manzo, Albee, 2004). The student learns how to make predictions, inferences and actively understand and remember what they have read.
