Chemistry Update! Welcome Mr. McGinn!
Dear Scituate High School Chemistry Students and Parents,
Please join me in welcoming Mr. McGinn to our Spartan Family! Mr. McGinn applied and was hired as the new full time Chemistry teacher at SHS. He comes to us with years of experience as a chemistry teacher at Barrington High School, including teaching AP Chemistry. Before Barrington, he taught Science at Coventry High School and also served in a district in San Diego, CA.
Mr. McGinn has already been working closely with our department chair, Mr. Catucci, to ensure a smooth and successful transition. Mr. McGinn will begin teaching on Monday, November 6th and will begin his lessons by getting to know our students and asking questions to see what students know and are able to do. We have no doubt that Mr. McGinn will hit the ground running to support our students!
Thank you all for your patience and support as we navigated this transition.

SCITUATE HIGH SCHOOL RECEIVES RECOGNITION FOR STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT IN ADVANCED PLACEMENT COURSES
On October 2nd, Scituate High School received notice from the College Board that the high school has been named to the Advanced Placement Program School Honor Roll earning Bronze distinction. SHS earned this recognition through their commitment to maximize college readiness, by increasing college-going culture and providing opportunities for students to earn college credit.
“Scituate High School is committed to providing students with educational opportunities that prepare them for future success,” said SHS Principal Michael Hassell. “We offer six AP courses in several areas of study, including Computer Science, United States Government, Calculus, and English. These courses benefit students by offering them a rigorous academic environment that helps to develop critical thinking and analytical skills. Students and families are encouraged to talk with our guidance department to explore AP course options.”
Each year, the AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results and broadening college access to students. The Bronze distinction recognizes that 45% of SHS students who graduated in 2023 took at least one AP exam and more than half of the students who completed exams received scores that could earn them college credit.
“Students in 10th or 11th grade can enroll in an AP course at SHS,” said School Guidance Counselor Daniel Casey. “We are proud of our students for challenging themselves by enrolling in these college-level courses.”
