Choose Peace: October is Anti-Bullying Awareness Month
Although we are behind in sending out the newsletter this month, we still want to encourage everyone to Choose Peace all year long! What should students do if they are the target of bullying, see someone being bullied, or are the bully? Refer to the ACHS Report Bullying Page for the anonymous reporting tool! (Once on the home page, the link is listed on the bottom right-hand side!) Here is some additional information from the page:
If a bullying issue involves a direct threat, we encourage students to report the threat immediately to ACHS staff and or SRO. If the threat occurs outside of school it is important that you contact an adult or law enforcement. If not a direct threat, students are still encouraged to complete a form to report bullying. This form should be used to report an issue that does not involve a direct threat, and reporters will remain anonymous.
It is important that students understand and abide by our bullying policies at Andover Central High School.
-
We will not bully others.
-
We will try to help students who are bullied.
-
We will make it a point to include students who are easily left out.
-
When we know somebody is being bullied, we will tell an adult at school and an adult at home.

College Visits to ACHS
College admissions representatives visit ACHS in the fall and spring during seminar. There are a few out of state colleges that only visit in the fall, so we highly recommend students attend these. Juniors and seniors can gather both general as well as ask specific information. Even if a student has already decided on a school, he or she can ask questions about housing, etc. It is a great time to connect with the admissions staff!
Who is coming? Wichita State and Butler Community College on Nov. 1, William Jewell on Nov. 6, Newman on Nov. 8 and Barton Community College on Dec. 4. Please go to the College and Career Visits page to see the calendar and future dates. Colleges will visit again the spring!

Keep Up Your Momentum!
Here are some helpful reminders of ways to succeed this semester:
1) Use an organization tool. This can be a paper agenda or a technology tool such as a phone. Some students take pictures of the white boards and some use homework apps. Whichever one you choose, use it daily to make it a habit.
2) Communicate to others if you need help. Teachers, counselors and parents sometimes don't realize you need help until it is too late to dig yourself out of a hole. Talk to your teacher and go in and get help! Conferences is a great time for teacher, parent, and student to have a conversation.
3) Build consistent good habits. You won't wake up one morning with the ability to be super organized and motivated; you have to work at it! Practice makes permanent.
4) Studying outside of class for a test is a must.
Testing Day- Now What?
ACT Practice Test- The junior English teachers will have students grade the tests in class. This will give students a prediction of their performance on a real ACT. Students can sign up for an ACT workshop as well. We have several on our website.
ASVAB- The military will send us results in the next few weeks. Either a recruiter or one of the counselor's will go over the results with students.
PSAT- Results will not be posted until the second week of December. Students will be able to log into their College Board account to view results. Counselors will call students in to review information once those results have been posted by College Board
Pre-ACT- Counselors will go over results with students in their English classes. We hope to do this around Thanksgiving!
