Class B CDL (One-Year Only)- A Class B commercial driver license is required to operate straight trucks, large busses, segmented buses, box trucks, and dump trucks and small trailers. Getting your CDL makes you part of an industry that moves the lifeblood of the US economy. While everyone sees trucks on the road, they don’t realize those trucks are moving 70% of the freight in the United States – freight accounting for over $670 billion.
Ohio Certified Nursery Technician (One-Year Only)- The Ohio Certified Nursery Technician (OCNT) program has three specializations, Garden Center, Grower, and Landscape. Landscape contractors are relied on to provide horticultural advice as well as landscape construction techniques. Students will learn plant identification, plant usage, plant health, soils, turfgrass management, use of pesticides, construction techniques, design, sales and more. Professional Certification is one of the most important steps an individual can take to demonstrate knowledge and stand out as examples of excellence in the Green Industry.
NCCER Certification and Equipment Operations (One-Year Only)- Construction is more than a job. It is a career with high demand, high salaries and high potential, over 180,000 jobs available in Ohio. NCCER is recognized by the construction industry as the training, assessment, certification and career development standard.
Robotics Certification (One-Year Only)- Earn your FANUC and MotoMan certifications, gaining skills that are highly sought after in the high-tech engineering and manufacturing industries. Students will learn the basic understanding of robot operations and programming as well as material handling and its components. These credentials will allow you to succeed in a variety of career opportunities.
NIMS Machining (One-Year Only)- Student learn the automated method of machining through hands-on work with Lathe and Mill machines. A lathe machine rotates a workpiece on an axis to perform various operations like cutting, sanding, knurling, and drilling. Mill machines are for precision and efficiency. By earning NIMS credentials, students secure a competitive edge when applying for jobs because they have demonstrated that their skills meet the industry established standards. NIMS credentials never expire.
HVAC - NCCER Certification (One-Year Only)-The increasing development of HVAC (heating and air-conditioning systems) technology causes employers to recognize the importance of keeping up to speed with the latest equipment and skills, giving students completing this course an advantage in the hiring process. Students will have an introduction to HVAC, trade mathematics, basic electricity, introduction to air distribution systems, basic copper and plastic piping practices, and soldering and brazing.
STNA (One-Year Only)- State tested nurse's aides are vital to the healthcare industry and jobs are expected to increase 20% between 2010 and 2020, adding significant value to your resume for completing this program. Students learn personal care skills, mental health and social service needs, infection control, basic restorative services, safety and emergency procedures, resident rights, and basic nursing skills. John Hopkins Engineering Innovation Summer Program
The Johns Hopkins Engineering Innovation Summer (EI) Program will be held at Clark State Community Collegein Springfield, OH. We are asking that you share the information below with students interested in math, science, and engineering.
EI is the summer version of a course offered to first year engineering majors at Johns Hopkins University (JHU). The semester-long course has been condensed into four or five weeks. During the program, students complete lab activities in computer, chemical, electrical, computer, civil, mechanical engineering, and materials science. Course materials, including labs and sample quizzes, can be viewed here. Students who earn an A or B in the class receive three college credits from JHU.
This is a great opportunity for students to try college engineering while still in high school. They can decide if they want to pursue an engineering major and which field is of the most interest to them.
Students applying to EI at Clarks State may request a waiver for the application fee. Need-based full and partial scholarships are available for commuting students. Students interested in receiving financial aid should apply early.
Below is a link to a video in which past EI students and faculty talk about the program: https://ei.jhu.edu/engineering-overview-video/.
This course is rigorous, and students must have As and Bs in their high school math and science classes. They also must have taken the following subjects to be eligible to apply:
· Algebra II
· Physics or Chemistry
· Trigonometry, or have learned to use the trig functions – up through the application of the laws of sines and cosines to resolve non-right angle triangles in another math course
· Most students are rising Juniors and Seniors in high school
Important Dates: · EI Course: June 24 – July 19, 2019, Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm · Online Application Available: December 15, 2018 · First Deadline: February 15, 2019 · Financial Aid Priority Deadline: March 15, 2019 · Final Deadline: June 1, 2019 Please discuss this opportunity with your students who may be interested in learning more about engineering. We would be happy to email you an information flyer to share with your students. If you are interested, please let us know by sending an email to ei@jhu.edu. For more information please visit our website: https://ei.jhu.edu/. Please share the Engineering Innovation video with your students:
