Grady College Career Report
2017-2018 Review
Greetings from the Grady Career Consultant!
Grady College Faculty and Staff:
I wanted to review career services resources provided to Grady College students by me and my graduate assistant, Evan Skloot, for the 2017-2018 academic year. Thank you all who have included us in Grady College activities, encouraged students to meet with us and invited us to speak to your students in classrooms and student organizations.
I enjoyed collaborating closely with our academic advising team and Kelvin Rutledge this year, and getting to see the amazing work our students produce as a client for Dr. A's Fall 2017 campaigns class. I've included details of how Evan and I served University of Georgia students this year, in addition to the rich data gathered for Grady's Class of 2017 career outcomes.
I'm looking forward to continuing to work with you all on providing valuable career information to Grady students in the upcoming academic year. Thank you for taking the time to review this information, and please let me know if you have any questions! I can be reached at sam610@uga.edu.
Best,
Samantha Meyer

Grady Student Feedback
After each in-office appointment, students are emailed a consultant satisfaction survey.
Based on this year's surveys, 100% of Grady students who had an in-office appointment indicated that they were satisfied or very satisfied with their overall experience. Of the students surveyed, 100% agreed that they would recommend other students visit the Career Center.
Please feel free to refer any students to our office, should they need career assistance.
The purpose of the Career Outcomes Initiative is to provide insight into the employment or continuing education status for University of Georgia graduates (Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate) within an average of 6 months of their graduation date. Additionally, the data provides detailed employment information, salary statistics, and graduate school information.
These statistical reports constitute the only centralized employment data collection for The University of Georgia and are used by current students, employers, departments, and other stakeholders. Data from our survey is published in the UGA Fact Book and reported to various organizations that rank colleges, such as US News and World Report. Finally, the Career Outcomes Initiative provides graduates with an opportunity to recognize UGA Faculty and Staff who have greatly influenced their career path or decision making.
Check here for data by college and by major.
The Class of 2017 Career Outcomes data show a 91% knowledge rate for Grady College students, one of the highest response rates out of all colleges and programs at the University of Georgia. For Grady graduates, 96% of the Class of 2017 were employed or enrolled in graduate school within six months of graduation. The information was gathered from December 2016, May 2017 and August 2017 graduates.
If you would like more information or have any questions, please let me know. Thank you in advance for your help in promoting the UGA Career Outcomes Survey to graduating or recently graduated students in coming semesters! The survey can be found here.
Looking Ahead to Next Year
Classroom Presentations
Faculty and staff can request in-class presentations on a variety of career-related topics. This can be especially helpful for faculty and staff who know they will be out of town on certain dates throughout the semester, though I am happy to do classroom presentations at any time.
Career topics that would be beneficial for Grady students are: digital portfolios, resumes and/or creative resumes, cover letter development, preparation for ADPR Connection during fall semester, job searching in the communications industry, internship searching in the communications industry (especially in the fall), LinkedIn networking, career paths related to their majors. Additional general career topics I could present on include networking, interviewing, professionalism and social media and the job search.
In a Spring 2018 survey of Intended-Grady, Grady undergrad and Grady graduate students, participants reported classroom presentations as one of their preferred ways of receiving career-related information.
To schedule an in-class presentation, please email Samantha Meyer at sam610@uga.edu. Please plan to schedule at least 3 weeks in advance.
