Principal's Message
Dear Families,
I hope this newsletter finds you well. It is amazing to think that we have less than 20 days left of school. With the ending of the school year comes a lot of excitement. For some, excitement means great things, happy events, and new beginnings. For others, excitement includes strong feelings of anxiety, nervous emotions, and uncertainty. All of which are normal responses as we begin to talk about the ending of a school year and the beginning of another new year ahead. With this in mind, I respectfully ask that we talk to the students about being polite and respectful towards one another. This will assist everyone for a smooth transition into summer. I thank you, in advance, for your assistance and support in having these conversations with your children.
Haynes continues to have many grade level events coming up, and our calendar is looking very active. Please continue to review the Haynes calendar for any upcoming events for your child(ren).
We hope you enjoy our newsletter. As always, thank you for your continuous support for Haynes.
Sincerely,
Nadine Ekstrom, Ph.D.
Interim Principal
A reminder from the Front Office
With the beautiful weather we are experiencing, we have an increasing number of students walking/biking to/from school each day. If your student is planning to bike or walk home and this is a change to their normal dismissal plan, please provide a note to haynes_office@sudbury.k12.ma.us so we can direct your student appropriately at the end of the school day.
Tummy Troubles
The CDC estimates that 1 in 6 Americans get a foodborne illness each year. Unfortunately, it feels like our Haynes community is boosting the numbers.
Foodborne illnesses like salmonella or Norovirus are also known as the stomach flu. They often have sudden onset nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, body aches and fever (especially in children), which can begin 12-72 hours after exposure. The duration is usually 24-48 hours. These illnesses are spread through exposure to virus particles from stool and vomit.
As you have a picnic lunch at the playground, eat from a food truck, or have a post-game treat, please remember to wash your hands prior to eating.
We can prevent foodborne illnesses:
Wash your hands frequently - with soap and water - after touching high contact surfaces, before eating/drinking and after using the restroom.
Stay home when sick! Remain out of school or work a minimum of 24-48 hours after the last episode of vomiting/diarrhea and be able to tolerate at least a bland diet
Clean high touch surfaces such as doorknobs, light switches, phones, counters, tables, etc
