March News and Notes

March Madness (Science Edition)

March is chock-full of science related events, both within Cobb and the greater-Atlanta area. On March 5th we hosted two Science Olympiad events. The Title I Elementary Science Olympiad was held at Fair Oaks ES. Twelve teams participated and the kids had a blast. The inaugural Cobb Regional Middle School Science Olympiad was held at South Cobb HS. Fifteen teams competed; Kittredge Magnet School (1st place), Campbell MS A (2nd Place), and Hightower Trail MS (3rd place) will advance to the state tournament. Both events were heavily supported by teacher, community member, and high-school student volunteers. Cobb EMC and Gas South sponsored the events. On March 19th we will host the Cobb Regional Elementary School Science Olympiad as well as the Elementary Science Fair. These events will take place at Walton HS. Come out and show your support!

The Atlanta Science Festival runs from March 19th-26th. Check out the many events going on through-out the week here http://atlantasciencefestival.org/. Share them with your students' families to promote science fun and engagement. Or, check out a few on your own to celebrate your love of science. A few of our favorite events include: Discovery Day at Georgia State, Crime Scene Investigation Squad, Sci-Cycle: A Competitive Scavenger Hunt on Two Wheels (all 3/19), Zombie Outbreak Game (3/20), The Science Behind Star Wars (3/21), Family Science Night with Cobb 4-H (4/22), Know-It-All Trivia Night hosted by HowStuffWorks at Ponce City Market (4/22), and the Exploration Expo at Centennial Olympic Park (3/26).
