HAPPENINGS IN OUR BUILDING
DUE TO STATE TESTING THERE WILL BE NO MORNING ASSEMBLY AT THE INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL ON FRIDAY APRIL 12TH
We believe that it is important that your child takes these tests which are designed to determine whether or not your child is on grade level and how well the district is doing as a whole. Your child should not stress about this test. It is a great way to get experience with test question formats used for future tests like regents etc. Please keep in mind that this is not designed as a high stakes test. We simply encourage your students to do the best they can on the test. We will be completing the tests using a (flexible) 2hr. testing period starting at 8:30 am and concluding approx. 10:30. All testing accommodations will be given to those who need and any students requiring more time will have that option as well. Thank you so much for your support.
Testing dates are as follows
ELA- APRIL 11-12
MATH- MAY 7-8
SCIENCE-MAY 15 (5th grade only)

FIFTH GRADE
During Spring rotations in 5th grade, students participated in a lesson about emotions and behaviors in the four “zones of regulation”. Miss Johannsen, one of our SUNY Cortland practicum students, reviewed breathing exercises and other strategies students can use to help calm down and ground themselves.
LIBRARY
Students enjoyed Spirit Week and STEM challenges to celebrate READ ACROSS AMERICA in the library. Third grade learned about biographies and listened to a biography about Dr. Seuss. They were challenged to see how high they could stack cups (Cat in the Hat hats). Fourth grade students learned about natural resource conservation by listening to The Lorax by Dr. Seuss. Their challenge was to balance “truffulas” on a “truffula tree.” Fifth grade students listened to Horton Hatches the Egg by Dr. Seuss. Their challenge was to engineer a nest that could support a plastic egg filled with pennies.
APRIL 8TH SOLAR ECLIPSE!!
ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY!
Having a Solar Eclipse is a rare event but being in or in our case a short drive to areas of Totality is extremely rare. Praying the weather cooperates we are in for a treat!
I will be sending home a pair of eclipse viewing glasses with every student in my building before break so they can safely view the eclipse as this is only one we will be able to see here until the next partial eclipse which will be August 12, 2045! This will literally be a once in a lifetime experience for many.
BELOW ARE SOME EVENTS AND RESOURCES TO GET THE MOST OUT OF THIS OPPORTUNITY.
Remember you do not have to go anywhere to see a near totality eclipse! Just be sure to have proper eye protection designed for solar eclipses so you don't damage your eyes.

The City of Watertown sits directly in the center of the “path of totality” and at approximately 3:22 PM on April 8, 2024, Watertown will plunge into darkness for three minutes and 39 seconds.
To mark this momentous occasion, the City of Watertown will host “Total Eclipse of the Park” at historic Thompson Park.
The event will feature:
