The Tessa Sutton Foundation
For those of you who have visited the playground recently, you may have noticed a new plant on the side of our building. This magnolia plant was purchased by Parents Club as a way to honor a previous ROYAL who passed away last year after her 22 month battle with cancer. Tessa Sutton loved soccer and spending time with her friends at recess, so it is only fitting that this plant faces the playground and soccer field.
Throughout the year staff members have collected donations for the Tessa Sutton Foundation. As the year comes to an end, we wanted to involve the students too! If your family would like to participate, we will be collecting donations for the Tessa Sutton Foundation May 6th- May 10th. If you would like to participate, your student can bring in cash donations marked “Tessa Sutton Foundation.” To celebrate our efforts, every class will have an extra recess sometime during the week of May 6th (donations are not required to participate in the extra recess).
You can learn more about the Tessa Sutton foundation by visiting: https://tessasuttonfoundation.org

Updated Calendar
Due to the use of four snow days this winter, our 2023-2024 School Calendar has changed.
We now have school on April 1, May 10, May 17, and May 24. Please see the Updated School Calendar below.
Future Second Grade Families
All first grade students will need to get a dental exam for 2nd grade. Please remember to get the Illinois School form and turn it in after your next check up!
5th Grade Physicals for 6th Grade
It's not too early to schedule your physical for the 2024-2025 school year. All 6th grade students must have a current physical with updated immunizations in order to receive a schedule and start middle school in the fall. Call their health provider to make an appointment soon.
What's for Lunch?
Click here for the May Lunch Menu.
Birthday Treats
To promote a positive, safe, and healthy lifestyle and classroom learning community; birthday celebrations at school will not include treats or favors from home. Teachers will choose to celebrate students in their classroom in grade and age appropriate ways.
DGS Spirit Days
May 2 - DGS School Spirit and Popcorn Day! Wear blue or yellow or your school spirit wear. Popcorn will be served during lunch.
Calling ALL Parents
Did you know as a parent of a DGS student you are automatically a member of our Parents
Club? Join us May 7th at 7:00 pm for our next meeting. We will be holding elections for
Executive Board Officers for the 2024-2025 School Year. We still need a lot of volunteers
for our Board Committee Chairs (no election required, you just volunteer). We will also be
voting on the 2024-2025 Budget. Come get involved as we begin to plan the fun-filled
events we host throughout the year. Please email Annalee
at dunlapparentsclub@gmail.com if you have any questions. We can't wait to meet you!
A BIG thank you to everyone that helped make Parents Club a success this year. When PC
succeeds, our Royals succeed! Enjoy the last few weeks of school and have a great
summer!
Thank you!

Staff Appreciation
Teacher Appreciation Week is just around the corner, and the Parents Club has some special treats planned for the DGS teachers and staff. The Parents Club will be using funds we raised through the Fun Run and Carnival to cover the costs of the things we have planned. If you would like to help plan and execute the week’s plans, please reach out to Annalee at dunlapparentsclub@gmail.com. Thanks in advance for your support of the Parents Club as we work to support the teachers and staff that teach our kids!
Muffins in the Morning will be on Wednesday, May 2 from 6:45 – 7:30 am. We will be serving delicious muffins, fruit, and yogurt along with coffee, juice, and milk in the DGS gym. Muffins in the Morning is a free, fun, and special social activity that serves as a venue for DGS Mothers, Grandmothers or Special Female Role Models to visit the school and have breakfast with their DGS student. Students are thrilled for the opportunity to bring their special person to school, and it is a great way to thank those that work so hard throughout the year to take care of the students.

full time. Please check out the PC website under the “Meet the Team” tab. At the bottom of
that page there is a link to descriptions and detailed responsibilities of each position.

Safe 2 Help IL
The State of Illinois has developed a school safety program called Safe2Help Illinois in an effort to raise awareness of 21st-century threats facing schoolchildren in Illinois.
Safe2Help Illinois is a 24/7 program where students can use a free app, text/phone, and website (Safe2HelpIllinois.com) to share information on school safety issues in a confidential environment. Once vetted, the information provided will be shared with local district and school officials and/or local PSAP/9-1-1- call center, depending on the nature of the information shared.
Dunlap Shine Award
The Dunlap School District Shine Award honors employees who go above and beyond for the students and schools in our community. Honorees positively influence, inspire, and leave a lasting impact in the work that they do every day, helping to fulfill the overall District mission to empower all students to reach their individual potential.
Nominations can be submitted by students, parents, District employees, business, or community members by completing the following nomination form. District employees will be selected and honored throughout the school year to receive this prestigious honor.
Selected nominees will receive a crystal apple in recognition of their exemplary efforts, provided by Horace Mann. Additionally, Peoria Prints & Graphic Designs will provide yard signs for staff to celebrate their achievement at home!
Please provide your email in the field below so that a copy of your nomination will be sent to your email address and so that we can contact you with any additional questions.
