Math
This week we reviewed our numbers. Next week we will learn about our numbers all the way to 120. We will learn to count, read, and write our numbers to 120. We will also learn how to build our numbers on a ten frame and recognize the numbers 1-10 on dot cards. You can help at home by practicing writing the numbers to 120, by randomly calling out a number and having your child write it, or showing them a number and having them read it to you.
You can also play games on my website. Go to the Math tab and then Numbers.
Writing
We are continuing to review how to write our letters correctly. When your child writes, please make sure they are forming the letters correctly, not starting at the bottom, and writing between the lines correctly.
Social Studies
We are beginning our unit on rules and laws. This week we are focusing on school rules. We will be using the book David at School to help us. Our main focus is to be able to have your child explain why we have certain rules (to be safe, to help the common good, etc).
Reading / Phonics
This week we had so much fun learning about exploding sounds and squeezer sounds. We have also learned about many of the vowels that live in Vowel Town. Your child should be able to tell you the four areas of Vowel Town, say the vowels in order, explain why some vowels are in taxis, and explain "What's Your Name e".
Next week we will continue reviewing our consonants and continue our learning about Vowel Town.
We are also going to begin building our stamina for reading to self. You can practice this at home also by setting a timer and seeing how long your child can silently read a book.
