LMS Tiger Talk
March 15, 2024
Principal's Message
Tiger Families,
It's the first week of fourth quarter and we're off and running! Sponsored by our Student Council, we capped off our Leukemia and Lymphoma Society fundraising today where we had staff taking a pie in the face for a good cause. It's always a good time, and we appreciate all of your support helping to raise funds for a great cause.
Next week is the last week of class before a well-deserved spring break for our hard-working students and staff. We have Hope Week going on which promotes positivity, support and hope for all of our students and brings some fun theme days and activities along with it. You can find all the details for Hope Week below, as well as information regarding our NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) presentations. We're looking forward to a great week for our students!
If you haven't already, please be sure to mark the upcoming Ohio State Testing dates on your calendar. Those will be quickly upon us on our return from spring break. Our students have been working hard, and we're excited for them to demonstrate all they've learned this year!
3rd quarter report cards can now be found in TigerParent.me. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
Take care and Go Tigers!

Erin's Law Training in 8th Grade
Dear Families:
A new Ohio Law, known as “Erin’s Law,” requires all public schools to provide age-appropriate sexual abuse education for students in kindergarten through grade 12. Training for our 8th-grade students in our building will take place on Weds, 3/20. We want parents to be aware of this required training and provide you an opportunity to opt out if you do not want your child to receive the training.
Workshops about child abuse and bullying awareness will be conducted by trained staff from the Council on Child Abuse of Southern Ohio (COCA). The group provides age-appropriate presentations to thousands of students in our area every year.
Workshops on bullying will teach students how to recognize physical, verbal, social, sexual, and cyber bullying. Students will be taught strategies to handle difficult social situations and bullying behavior. The training will include information about internet safety.
Workshops on child abuse will teach students to recognize physical, verbal, sexual, and emotional abuse, along with neglect. Students will also learn the importance of telling a trusted adult if child abuse is suspected.
Workshops on safe dating and healthy relationships will teach students about consent, healthy vs. unhealthy relationships, dating violence, and the importance of getting help if they are in an unsafe relationship. After the classroom presentation, students will also have the opportunity to speak to COCA staff members, to ask questions, or express concerns in a one-on-one conversation.
Please take the time to talk to your child about the program and discuss any questions or comments they might have about the subject.
All students will participate in this program unless you complete the attached form indicating you do not give permission for your child to participate.
Again, Loveland City School District and all public school districts in Ohio are required to provide this training for students. You can learn more about Erin’s Law by following this link. Learn more about COCA’s presentations by following this link to their website.
If you have additional questions, please contact me.
Thank you,
David Knapp
National Alliance On Mental Health
Our 7th and 8th graders will have the opportunity to experience “Ending the Silence” presentations put on by the National Alliance On Mental Illness (NAMI) on Monday, March 18th. These presentations will take place during our Social Studies classes.
In the Ending the Silence presentation, a lead presenter shares an informative presentation and a young adult with a mental health condition shares their journey of recovery. Both presenters share their own lived experiences either as an individual living successfully with a mental health difficulty or someone who loves and supports someone living with a mental health challenge.
The goal of these presentations is to spread a message of empathy and hope to encourage students to actively care for themselves and for their peers, by reaching out for help, encouraging a friend or family member to seek help, and reducing stigma. The goal of NAMI’s “Ending the Silence” is to create a generation of students who are well-positioned to end the silence and stigma surrounding mental illness.
Topics include:
Signs and symptoms of mental illness and suicide (NAMI presenters will be sensitive to the age of our students when discussing these topics)
Statistics on how mental illness affects youth
Personal perspectives on the experience of living with mental illness
Recovery and coping strategies and resources available
Ways to seek help for themselves, or someone else
Ways to help reduce the stigma associated with mental illness
How COVID has impacted us and how to cope with our mental health as we move on
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our LMS Office Team.

Reminders
Calendar Change: No School on Monday, April 8, 2024
Loveland Tiger Families,
There will be no school for students on Monday, April 8, 2024. A total solar eclipse will cross over Ohio that day, and we’re canceling classes to allow families to experience the eclipse together.
The timing of the eclipse presents a safety challenge. The eclipse will stretch over a period of about two hours around afternoon dismissal time. Students would be on buses, walking, or driving home when the eclipse hits its peak, making it very challenging for students to view this once-in-a-lifetime event safely.
This is the first total solar eclipse in Ohio in more than 200 years. The Ohio Department of Workforce and Development is warning that traffic could be heavy and cell service or internet service could be impacted because of the large number of people expected to visit the state.
I understand that a change to the schedule may be an inconvenience for families, which is why we’ve made this decision now, to give everyone time to prepare. Staff will still be reporting to work on April 8 and will use the time for professional development and training.
You can find more information about how to safely view the eclipse here:
https://ema.ohio.gov/media-publications/ohio-total-solar-eclipse

School Drop-Off Procedures
We have seen an uptick in our morning drop-off traffic with the colder temperatures and we wanted to take a moment to remind everyone of the drop-off procedures. For the safety of our students and purposes of efficiency (and making this process as quick as possible for all of you!), It is very important that ALL people follow these instructions during this busy part of the day:
- For those families dropping off and/or picking up your child from the LIS/LMS campus, you will pull in the main entrance and you will have to follow the line in the picture below before dropping off or picking up your student(s). You MUST follow this line all the way around the back of the building - DO NOT turn left immediately to the front drive of the building. This causes back-ups and unsafe conditions for students walking or riding their bike to school.
- The area where students are dropped and picked up remains in the front of the building. You will pull all the way up in front of the main LIS/LMS entrance before your student(s) leaves or enters the car. PULL ALL THE WAY UP to the end of the drop-off area (designated by signs) before your child exits the vehicle. This allows more students to be exiting their vehicle at the same time and improves efficiency. Please see the pictures below for the traffic pattern and drop-off area locations.
- Car riders, please also be aware that we will have students walking and riding their bikes to school each day. Please be careful and keep an eye out for students crossing the street and driveway around our campus. You can see the marked crosswalk locations in the picture below where students and pedestrians should be crossing.
If everyone follows the process accordingly, we know it to be the most efficient and safe process possible given the volume and our campus layout. We appreciate everyone's cooperation in following the established process for our car riders. If you have any questions, please let us know.
