North Glendale Family Update
September 6, 2020
Good morning!
Every year my family, and my house, tend to fall apart during the chaos of back to school and early school days (I am apparently the only who can change trash bags and move laundry from the washer to the dryer). The first days of school arrive and I unrealistically (even after 25 years) think that like a light switch, all will smooth out and fall into place.
It doesn't, it takes time.
Back to school days can be, and usually are, clunky and awkward as we work at home and at school to make the pieces fit. This is exhausting for everyone during a typical year. Add a pandemic and the exhaustion is intensified. . It is a good time to remind ourselves that we are still less than 10 days into school and even in a typical year, we would still be feeling some bumps as we got into the groove.
I invite everyone reading this to give yourself the gift of grace as we remember the start of school is traditionally a time of transitions, new routines and unfamiliar expectations and it does ~ and it will ~ smooth out!
You ALL are doing AMAZING work.
Happy to talk anyone off the ledge ~ give me a call!

KSD NOW – Nutrition on the Weekends
KSD NOW – Nutrition on the Weekends – is a program that provides bags of food on the weekends during the school year for students in Kirkwood School District experiencing food insecurity.
Within the Kirkwood School District community, there are children who only have access to nutritious meals during the school day. In fact, about 12% of students qualify for free and reduced lunch – equating to over 700 students who are experiencing some level of food insecurity. Recognizing the hunger gap, Kirkwood School District staff members and parents have joined together to create KSD NOW to help address this need. Students in EVERY Kirkwood School District school receive support through KSD NOW.
The concept is simple: Children in Kirkwood School District at risk of weekend hunger receive a box of food that is nutritious, child-friendly, nonperishable, and easy to eat. The food provided in the boxes provides options for two breakfasts, two lunches, three dinners, and snacks for each weekend of the month.

Glory Run/Walk Virtual Marathon
Kirkwood Teachers of Color (KTOC) in collaboration with the Kirkwood School District Foundation (KSDF), are hosting the "Glory Virtual Run/Walk Marathon". Proceeds from this event will establish a fund that will award annual scholarships to Kirkwood students of color.
The virtual marathon starts October 1, 2020. This is your chance to run or walk a full marathon over the course of 31 days in October while supporting a great cause! Participants may run/walk 26.2 miles, or bike 100 miles.
Participants will receive the long-sleeved t-shirt shown and a decal. You can download the free Strava app or this printable calendar to help track your progress, and/or join our Facebook Event The Glory Run/Walk Virtual Marathon , where you can share your progress and/or photos with others on the same journey!
If you decide you would like the shirt and decal, but would rather sit this one out, we have a Couch Potato option as well: visit our Kirkwood School District Foundation donation website to make a donation.
