Martin's Musings
"Excellence is not a destination; it is a continuous journey that never ends." - Brian Tracy
Almost every day this week I saw evidence of this. Our 8th grade teachers shared with us on Tuesday how they are continuing to use the purposeful planning through having students deconstruct standards and taking it to another level with the writing of rubrics.
As I visited classrooms I saw students working on chromebooks (at least when the wifi was working :-) ) This week I popped in Mr. Floyd's classroom and he was using Nearpod to facilitate learning. His students were taking a virtual tour of the Greece so they could build background knowledge and later compare their learning of the past with the present. Ms. Eden and Ms. Eden are working with designing and testing models in science. Mrs. McElroy was working with Quizlet for vocabulary and her students were helping her as they had learned from Ms. Price. I have heard many colleagues supporting each other with Schoology. I could keep going. Keep it up. Trying new web apps and tools to engage students.

Continuous Improvement
When I think about this idea I think of Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind and Habit 3: Put First Things First. You have to have a little bit of both to have a growth mind set. A few ideas for motivation and maybe to use with students:
- This video is excerpts of different Will Smith interviews put together. There are few segments that maybe students could connect to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkziAM_ZyDM

- These are by Class Dojo - may be a little "young" but the idea in the story could work for a lesson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zrtHt3bBmQ&list=PLIChyVOpASG3UTHeoU-z6GuwyAFIFfpFj
Food for Thought:
- This post goes with the digital footprint lesson from Digital Citizenship: http://www.teachthought.com/the-future-of-learning/digital-citizenship-the-future-of-learning/dangers-social-media-teens/?utm_campaign=trueAnthem&utm_content=56b7a27e04d3017f34209480&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter
- This is an interactive graphic that I first saw on teachthought.com. It connects Bloom Taxonomy through pedagogy to tech tools. http://www.unity.net.au/padwheel/padwheelposter.pdf
