ART
Spring is in the air and with that, the younger kids will be making bugs and dino art. The older kids will be making paper mache and model magic projects. On March 23th, NISD will be hosting the Los Leones festival which is our annual art festival at Marshall High School. I wanted to take a minute to highlight our San Antonio Museums and art opportunities in our community. Our third graders just learned about Monet and the McNay museum happens to have a Monet on display. First and second graders are learning about roman vases, which the San Antonio art museum has several on display. The San Antonio art museum is free Tuesday evenings. I also know UTSA has Saturday morning discovery classes once a month free to the public, but they fill up quickly. Thank you for those that have donated magazines and are dressing their children in art friendly clothing!

First graders are continuing their practice of known rhythms and solfege syllables. Second graders are playing small percussion instruments alongside music, and third graders are exploring new solfege syllables, rhythms, and singing in canon. Fourth graders are learning new notes on the recorder, and fifth graders are playing seasonal games and more advanced music using ukuleles and xylophones.

PE-PHYSICAL EDUCATION
We have a jam packed month coming up in March. We're going to be starting with our very exciting Field Day on March 8th! Please ensure that your child comes properly prepared for that day with some sort of comfortable sneakers, a water bottle, and a towel/change of clothes if possible. We will have a couple of water stations available. Please make sure your child wears their Field Day shirt, if they bought one.
Looking forward to an exciting day!
As for the rest of the month, grades K-2 will be working on parachute based activities while grades 3-5 will be going through their second round of Fitnessgram testing.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)
We have a lot of different stuff going on in the STEM room this spring! Kinder will start their CODING unit, and work on kodable.com exploring algorithms, sequencing, de-bugging, and creativity in coding. 1st grade will be wrapping up their Environmental Engineering unit by designing and making bird feeders for our garden area. 2nd grade will be learning about Structural engineering in their career exploration, learning about beam construction and cantilevers. 3rd graders will start their Manufacturing Production career exploration, and will be designing an acrylic phone stand (shhhhhhh- it's a secret!) 4th and 5th grades are wrapping up their TINKERCAD 3D software design unit, and 4th grade will start their Design Pre-construction unit, exploring the architecture and construction industry. 5th grade will jump back into their Cybersecurity unit and wrap it up in a few more rotations. After our Spring Break, all grades will be able to enjoy our Discovery Dome traveling planetarium. 6 cluster elementary schools share the planetarium so we will be able to use it in our 8 day rotations. All students will be able to participate and have one full class session inside the dome, seeing some amazing pictures and videos taken from satellites in space as well as watching some informational videos correlated to the TEKS in their grade.
