The SADD Club at CASH hosted a toiletries drive to support the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County. For the first time, they collected in all the buildings across the district. They are proud to announce that they collected 843 items that were delivered to the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County in West Chester. These items will help at least 100 people who have been victims of domestic violence!
A special thank you to students Bella Agatone, Kylie Beech, Kat DiPietro, Cadyn Gooding, Ryan Jeffers, Mya Luna, Maria Malo, Ogunda Ondiek, Ava Ressel, Anna Rutledge, Tommy Sylvester, Alivia Thomas and Abby Traband for organizing and coordinating this effort with SADD Club Advisor Mrs. Wendy Ford.

Environmental Science – Bugs for Lunch
Would you eat an insect? Sustainability is a common theme in Mr. Gellner’s Environmental Science classes. To kickstart our sustainability discussions, our students researched the sustainability of a typical American diet and agricultural practices. They had a choice to investigate GMOs, plant-based diets, no-till farming, and many more. Many chose to look at the sustainability of eating beef vs insects for protein. In other words, instead of chicken or beef, try some bugs. The purpose of the research was to compare how much water, land, and carbon it takes to produce 1 kg of wheat, insects, chicken, and beef. Not only did the students learn that it takes less land, water, and carbon to produce insects, but insects provide more protein per serving than beef. To culminate our research, the class held a “Bugs for Lunch” day. The students had the opportunity to eat various flavors of crickets and an assortment of other insects. In case you were wondering, “White Chedder” crickets were this year’s favorite. So, if you are looking to live more sustainably, try substituting your next batch of beef tacos for some Spicy Cayenne Cricket Tacos.
Spanish IV Updates
Señora Campayo's Spanish IV Honors class reviews a complex grammatical concept, the Present Subjunctive, by reviewing with this index card activity. All the students in the class stand face to face in 2 lines and receive a card with an English verb phrase used in this lesson. Each partner translates his/her partner's phrase, switch cards, and one line moves down one person. Every student has a role and is accountable not only for his/her own answers, but also "teaching" their partner. ¡HABLA ESPAÑOL!
Student Obligations
As we enter the 4th marking period it is critical that any students owing any type of obligation to ensure that these are satisfied prior to the end of the school year. Any student with outstanding obligations tht are NOT satisfied will not be able to participate in end of the year activities such as junior and senior proms and commencement. In an effort to assist in ensuring students are able to participate in the end of year activities and cleared from obligations such as district owned materials and property and any financial or other obligation, a school messenger will be sent to those students who currently are on the list. If you are in receipt of this notice, please be sure that your child satisfies the obligation as soon as possible.
** SENIORS - in order to receive a cap and gown and attend the Senior Prom, ALL Obligations must be cleared so PLEASE DO NOT WAIT!!**
SAFETY REMINDERS for Students
As we move into the 4th marking period and in addition to discussing the academic performance reminders above, please also take a few minutes to remind your child of the following safety reminders.
BUILDING SAFETY
Students SHOULD NOT open any exterior doors for others students (known or unknown) as well as adults. Anyone arriving to school after the cafeteria side doors close in AM must use the main entrance of the building. Seniors who arrive to school for Senior Privlege must park in the student lot and walk around to the main entrance. Seniors with early release will be monitored upon exiting the building and should use door #20 to exit the building and not allow anyone into the building while exiting.
SEARCHES
Parents/Guardians - please discuss the importance of students knowing what is in their possession at ALL TIMES (this includes in vehicles for student drivers). Students were informed prior to break that CASH will be holding additional searches after spring break similar to the one held in December with drug sniffing dogs. All searches will be in accordance with our CASD Board Policy 226 - Searches and will be held to protect and preserve the health, safety and welfare of the School population. Please take the time to periodically check your child's belongings and vehicle as well in an effort to ensure the safety of students is a priority at home, school and our community.
