The TIGER Times
Yamhill Carlton High School
Week of April 22-27, 2019
This newsletter has a great deal of information in it this week! I recommend a cup of coffee and some quality time to sit down and read it as we don't want you to miss anything.
Today, I had a student come up to me and ask what I did to get fired. So, maybe I should explain... When I was hired as interim principal in September, I came off of retirement and could only work a predetermined number of hours in 2018 and again in 2019. I did not have the option to apply to continue to be principal because of my status with PERS. So although I have loved my time at YCHS, I will be turning the reins over to Clint Raever on July 1 and know YCHS will be in great hands. In the meantime, the plan is to finish the year strong!

New Principal for 2019-20 School Year Announced
It is our great pleasure to announce the hiring of our new high school principal: Clint Raever.
Clint comes to us from the Lincoln County School District where he currently serves as the principal of Toledo High School. He comes highly recommended by his peers and supervisors.
Clint was picked from a competitive pool of 16 qualified candidates. He was interviewed by a hiring committee consisting of administrators, high school teachers, and school board members. Our final three candidates were also interviewed by the whole high school staff, school administrators, a group of parents, and a student group. We were all impressed with his past accomplishments, his obvious dedication to small communities, and the new energy he will bring to our school.
We are confident that Mr. Raever is the right choice to lead Yamhill Carlton High School into a successful future.

Seniors, Check Out These Career Opportunities?
Career Bound Pathways
The McMinnville Economic Development Partnership (MEDP) received a joint grant from the Ford Family Foundation and the Oregon Community Foundation to design a program to connect graduating high school students with entry-level, career track employment opportunities that do not require a traditional four-year degree.
PROGRAM GOALS
To expose students to high growth, high wage career paths that do not require a traditional four year degree
To build a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive pipeline of young talent for local employment opportunities
PROCESS
Companies will directly hire students for temporary, paid, entry-level employment
All participants will attend three days of pre-employment workshops consisting of work-skills training and site visits. Students will meet with a variety of local employers at these workshops and will see career ladders and possibilities for living wage careers at each participating company
Participants will receive weekly feedback from their supervisor and will reflect on their experience on a weekly basis
Upon successful completion of this temporary work experience, participants will be able to apply to a select pool of full-time, entry-level jobs with the potential to become living wage careers
