Davis/Martin Peek at the Week
January 8- January 12
Dear Parents,
On Friday, Arkansas State came and kicked off their Red Wolves Read program with our school. Envelopes that contain some helpful information will go home on Monday. Students who read 10 books between now and February 13th will receive a FREE basketball ticket to the Thursday, February 22nd games. Students will need to read 2 personal choice chapter books. The other 8 books will come from reading assignments we will take care of in class.
We will be starting D.A.R.E. this week! Every Wednesday our classrooms will meet with a Jonesboro police officer who will teach students about living drug and violence free.
Second quarter report cards will be sent home this Wednesday. Please sign and return them by Friday, January 12th. There will be no school on Monday the 15th due to it being MLK Jr. Day.

- Colony Creation simulation project - Beginning this week, students will work in cooperative groups and put themselves in the shoes of past colonists. They will begin by deciding what European country they are leaving, why, and which of the thirteen colonies they will be traveling to. Groups will decide on supplies they will bring on their voyage. They will also pull "fate" cards that determine what will happen to them on their voyage, as well as in their colonies once they have landed. Throughout this project students will be blogging about their experiences as colonists. This project is always a lot of fun, so make sure to ask your child about it!
