NEWS FROM THE EAGLE'S NEST
March 15, 2024
Hello EXE families,
We had a busy week of teaching and learning at EXE this week! Before you know it, our conferences will be here! If you haven't signed up yet, the link is here for you to access and set up your conference(s) with your child's teacher. Please note that conferences will take place on Monday, March 25 through Wednesday, March 27.
Students that were recognized by teachers during the 2nd trimester received a S.O.A.R. award this week for demonstrating characteristics of EXE's SOAR program! EXE is a wonderful school community filled with students who go above and beyond in every way from their Success, Optimism, Attitude and Respect. We know that ALL starts at home... thank you!
Teachers are reminding students of our school-wide expectation regarding hats in school. Students can wear baseball hats at recess. Within the school, however, students are required to put their hats away. Your cooperation in reinforcing this expectation at home is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support.
And a special thank you to EVERYONE who came out and made the Spring Fair so fun! The rain didn't dampen the day thanks to our PTO who organized a great event. We hope everyone had a great time!
As always, thank you for sharing your children with us! We look forward to seeing all of our students back on Monday.
With EXE pride,
Mrs. B
Women's History Month
Women's History Month commemorates and encourages the study and celebration of the important role of women in American history. International Women’s Day is held annually on March 8, so Women's History began as a weeklong celebration during this time. Women’s History is now celebrated for the month of March. Students will have the opportunity to check out some influential women on our monthly bulletin board. Be sure to ask your child about it!
PSSA Testing Window and Vacation Requests
If you are planning vacations, please note that PSSAs, our state mandated tests, are scheduled for the weeks of April 22 for ELA (Grades 3-5), April 28 for Math (Grades 3-5), and May 2-3 for Science (Grade 4 only). We encourage all students to attend school during these testing windows (unless they are sick) as they will take the assessments in their classrooms with their teachers. The familiar setting is helpful to them. Students are required to make up the state test upon their return to school but will not be with their homeroom teacher. Thank you for your consideration.
From our Physical Ed Teacher, Mrs. Keown...
We raised $5,196.26 for the Kids' Heart Challenge for the American Heart Association. Our TOP donator was Asher Sakautzki, raising $512.85! Way to go, Asher and EXE!
We are excited to share that our annual 4th and 5th District-Wide Track Meet will be held this May. Our students will enjoy a day at the WCU track in a friendly competition against other WCASD elementary schools. WE WILL NEED YOUR HELP!!! The success of the track meet rests heavily on the parent volunteers. YOU WILL NEED YOUR CLEARANCES. You can visit this link on the district website for information about obtaining your clearances. We suggest you put in for your clearances now as they do sometimes take a bit of time to receive them back.
Save the Date (May 15 with a rain date of May 17) to attend as a parent volunteer. More information will come with specific times.
PickUp Patrol
Parents/guardians must enter their child's plan to participate in an after-school event using PickUp Patrol. This is required because your child's dismissal plan is different from their normal plan and ensures that all EXE staff members know your child's plan at the end of the school day. If the club meets on a weekly basis, logging your child's plan is necessary each day that he or she will be participating in the after-school event. If you have any questions, please reach out to Kirsten Yantis, EXE's Attendance Secretary, at kyantis@wcasd.net
From the Nurse
Hello from the Health Room!
Please refer to the notes below from Mrs. Ruppert regarding when to keep your child home if they aren't feeling well.
Absence Note Information
Thank you to all of our EXE families who have registered for Pick-Up Patrol and already began using it this school year. Pick-Up Patrol (PUP) should be used for all dismissal plans and changes. Absences must be reported by 9:30 a.m., either through PUP OR through the Safe Arrival Line. When PUP was initially rolled out, there was an understanding that it could be used in lieu of submitting an excuse form. We have learned that is not the case.
Complete Excuse forms (linked here and below) including your child’s name, date, and reason for absence, are to be turned in by the student within three (3) days, after his/her return from an absence. The absence of a complete excuse form within this time period (3 days) will automatically be unexcused and/or unlawful and the school laws of Pennsylvania shall be applied. Excuse notes via email from a registered email address in PowerSchool will be accepted without an original signature. (Per District Attendance Guidelines Code 204AG1)
Excuse forms need to be kept on file in accordance with district and state policy. Absence notes through PUP do not meet district and state policy.
Safe Arrival phone line at 484-266-1410, is still available to report your child’s absence.
