From the Desk of Mrs. Coalter
Dear Ranger Families,
We have had many great things happening at Hamilton Middle School recently!
Last week we welcomed Ms. Irene Knapp from the Franklin County Prosecutor's office for an assembly. She shared that she prosecutes juveniles involved in various types of crimes. But, more importantly, she shared incredibly important information regarding the safe and responsible use of the internet and social media. Please ask your child what they learned from this important assembly. This is a great way to start conversations about the appropriate use of social media. Should you have any questions, please reach out to me. Ms. Knapp left her contact information and encouraged all students to reach out with any questions as well. I have also attached an important flyer created by her office.
Another notable event from the week was our roundtable discussion about respect. This activity started in the AIM classes where we asked students to tell us what respect looks like, sounds like and feels like. Each student had the opportunity to share their ideas by writing them down and engaging in a class discussion. From there, each AIM sent a representative to our roundtable discussion. The representatives shared what their groups talked about and shared a poster where their ideas were displayed. The discussions that we had were more valuable than I had anticipated! We also brainstormed some activities to help encourage respect among all of the students in our building. I can't wait to share some of those activities!
Our Second Quarter CBAs are quickly approaching. This is a great time for students to start reviewing the material that they have learned this grading period. This is also a great time to try our online tutoring program called, TutorMe. Information about TutorMe can be found towards the end of this and every newsletter. If you have any questions about TutorMe, please give me a call!
I hope you all have a great week! Please reach out of you need anything!
My best,
Mrs. Coalter

8th Grade Health Students Become "Egg Baby" Parents for the Week
8th grade health students were given an "egg baby" to take care of for 72 hours. It was required to go everywhere with the students...to class, on the bus, and anywhere they went outside of school! Students had to create a "car seat" for the egg baby to keep it safe for those 72 hours. Hopefully, after the 72 hours, the egg babies returned to health class unharmed / not cracked!
8th Graders Use Skittles to Demonstrate Weathering, Erosion, and Deposition
As Mr. Aitken and Mrs. Merryman's students wrapped up their weathering, erosion, and deposition unit, they used skittles (rock) and water (precipitation) to demonstrate the three natural processes.

Holiday Help
As we enter the holiday season, we're thrilled to once again introduce our Holiday Help Program here at HLS, a heartwarming initiative that aims to provide Holiday assistance to our students in need. It's a time of year when our community can truly come together and make a positive impact on the lives of those less fortunate.
The last day for the Canned Food Drive is Monday, December 11th. Students can turn in any canned foods to their AIM teachers.

The community of writing tutors delivers prompt, detailed feedback on submissions within hours, helping students polish papers and hone their writing skills for future assignments. Have your student submit their next writing assignment to help them get feedback before they get graded.
Dismissal Reminders
Please make sure your child knows of their transportation arrangements each day. If a change needs to be made, please contact the school BEFORE 2:00 so we can get the message to your child. Contacting the school after 2:00 does not guarantee that your child will get the message.
Car Rider Reminders
1. Car riders should exit the building using the front doors.
2. Students should enter the vehicle once it has pulled up to the sidewalk area. If you do not see your student, please continue to move forward so we can keep the line moving.
3. Students should not be walking across the parking lot or the grassy area to get to a car that is not yet to the sidewalk. This causes a significant safety concern!
4. Drivers, please drive slowly, follow the flow of traffic and be patient!
Student safety is of utmost importance! Please help us keep our students safe by following these guidelines.
PBIS
What is PBIS?
PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports.
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students’ behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health. When implemented with fidelity, PBIS improves social emotional competence, academic success, and school climate. It also improves teacher health and wellbeing. It is a way to create positive, predictable, equitable and safe learning environments where everyone thrives.

Our Mission Statement
EVERY RANGER. This phrase is meant to include everyone—every student, every staff member, every graduate and every community member. All of us working together.
EVERY REASON. The primary focus of every school system is the academic achievement of all students. Our staff and, by extension, our community take on the challenge of doing even more for our students. We educate the whole child. Whatever the need, whatever the issue, whatever the REASON we are going to work together and do the best we can for each other.
EVERY DAY. Thank you to our HLSD community for making our students a priority every day, and for always pitching in to help one another.
