WSD Inclement Weather/School Closing Information
Timely communication with our District families is always a priority, but especially important in emergency school closing situations. If WSD schools are forced to close due to inclement weather or other factors (i.e., power outages, water main breaks) parents/guardians and students will be notified in the following ways:
District Phone Call/Text/Email
The Wentzville School District utilizes Blackboard, a mass communication broadcast system that allows school administrators to notify all households by phone, text and email within minutes of an emergency or unplanned event that causes early dismissal or school cancellation. The service may also be used occasionally by individual schools to communicate general announcements or reminders. Please be sure to notify the school office about any change in your personal contact information. You always have the option of how you would like to receive notifications (you can turn off the call and only receive texts and/or emails for example). Simply contact the Community Relations office to change your delivery preferences by calling 636/327-3800, ext. 20357 or email kathleendelaquil@wsdr4.org.
TV/Radio
When inclement weather causes the District to cancel school or dismiss classes early, please check the following television and radio stations for school closing information.
KTVI - TV Channel 2 KMOX Radio 1120 AM
KMOV - TV Channel 4 KWRE Radio 730 AM
KSDK - TV Channel 5 KFAV Radio 99.9 FM
These TV and radio stations also have websites with the same school closing information. Look for the Wentzville R-IV School District. Please be advised that individual schools will not be listed separately, closings will always be listed as the Wentzville R-IV School District.
Website
The District website will be updated with any emergency school closing information. Please check on the homepage.
Social Media
The WSD has its own Facebook page (Wentzville School District) be sure to “like” us! It's a great way to keep up to date with the latest happenings in the District, complete with pictures. You can also follow the District on Twitter, just search for WSDinfo or Instagram (wsdschools). All three social media sites will be used not only to keep community members informed about the latest news in the District, but in the event of a school closing or emergency, this will be yet another means of communicating quickly and efficiently.
WSD App Push Notification
The WSD has an app you can download and choose to follow your child's school. The app will be an additional notification tool used in the event of a school closing or emergency to send followers a push notification directly to your phone. You can download the WSD app from iTunes or Google Play.
WSD SEEKS COMMUNITY INPUT TO HELP SHAPE FIVE-YEAR PLAN
The Wentzville School District is seeking input from all stakeholders – students, parents, employees, and community members – to help shape the District’s next five-year Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP). The District has scheduled three community engagement meetings called Guiding Principles for our Schools (GPS), to help inform stakeholders and provide a platform for feedback to set positive goals, define priorities and determine standards for the students and schools in the WSD.
Because of its sustained growth, the Wentzville School District faces some unique challenges but also has some unique opportunities. The goal of GPS is to bring together a diverse, thoughtful group of residents who will provide input that will be used to create the next CSIP, which is used to guide curriculum, professional development, financing priorities, staffing and the overall culture and strategic focus for the Wentzville School District. The WSD is inviting a broad-based coalition of citizens, staff, community members, and students to participate in the GPS process.
There will be three initial GPS meetings and the public is invited and encouraged to attend. These will be structured, “results focused” sessions where attendees will work together to reach a consensus on the topics and questions presented. The final GPS meeting is scheduled for February 12th – Community, Culture, and Safety & Security
“I’m so proud of where we’ve been and what our students and staff have accomplished over the last five years,” said Superintendent Dr. Curtis Cain. “The time has come to realign our focus and our priorities and this strategic process will only be effective if our stakeholders take the time to weigh in. Our growth certainly presents challenges, but it also presents opportunities. I’m confident that together we can develop a plan that will continue to move this great District forward, providing world-class learning opportunities that will prepare our students for success.”
The recommendations from the GPS meetings will be incorporated into the District’s CSIP, which will then be presented to the Board of Education for consideration. All GPS meetings will start at 7:00 p.m. and will be held in the commons at Timberland High School, 559 E. Highway N Wentzville, MO 63385. For those who are unable to make it to the meetings in person, there will be an opportunity to follow and weigh in on the District's Facebook page.
